Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Five Accounting

Just wanted to get an idea of how much interest there would be in my upgrading my A5v1 accounting to A5v5. It's a big project but if enough of you would be interested I can start working on it.

It's likely that a lot of the readers on the message board are not familiar with your A5V1 accounting app, so perhaps it would be useful to give some background on the app.

Basically the application provided the following modules:
Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Invoicing, Inventory, and Purchase Orders. It was originally published in 1995 and a second version released in 1996. It was written in A5v1.02 and had extensive low level Xbasic. It was provided with a 120 page user's guide and all the source code.

        John -
I'd be very interested as long as your method for pricing it out is reasonable.

This sure seems like a why reinvent the wheel kinda thing and there has been no wheel for recent A5 versions. I'd say get rolling!

Obviously it depends on how it works. I'd be interested if it was modular (only parts could be used with my own stuff) and priced reasonably and well documented. Again, the wheel thing.

            Ditto previous comments!!
One question though: Can it be used in "Fund Accounting" situations? Churches - Non-Profit Orgs. etc."

                  John:
I am also interested especially in the order entry.
Is there a demo other than your slide show.
What version is it currently written in?
                  pricing and support are important.

Please post a response or e-mail me

                      Charlie,

There is only the slide show at this point. It is written in the soon to be released version 5. It will be available as an add-on to Alpha Five.

The prior version had no support for fund accounting. You would need to modify the system to suit those needs.

                            John, Where's the slide show?

Also, I would mostly be interested in a modular G/L. I will probably write my own A/p and A/R since we tend to do things peculiarly (is that a word?) I would mostly want to batch post to G/L . Depending on how the A/R and A/P were structured I might use parts. I don't need order entry or the other parts.
