Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

          Hi Richard,

I'm a long time Alpha 4 and 5 user based in Mitcham Surrey which is just outside London.

I'm a property lawyer and use Alpha in the practise but I also run a software company which distributes and maintains software I wrote in Basic/Alpha4 some years ago.

I go back as far as CP/M!

I'm another of the Alpha4v3 v4 v6 & v7 users & was in the Alpha user group when it was running. I tried the Alpha5v4.5 demo but it didn't work for me, the learning curve was too steep.

Best of luck with the marketing,

                  Richard

In reply to your email on the message board I am a consultant living and working in London and have used various versions of the software, currently using version Alpha Five version 4.5. I have developed applications for Accountants and Solicitors.

I would be interested in receiving a beta copy of the new version as some of the features, listed in message board documents, will allow me to futher develop the packages. My clients are hoping that the version will allow the wrinkles to be ironed out and to make the applications more powerfull and easier to integrate with other software applications.

                    Hi there Richard,

I have been a user of Alpha Four and Five for many years and can only fault it in one way and that is I wish there was more advertising done for it. I feel if more people knew about it and were able to try it they would soon change to it.

I deal with Guildsomft in UK and have always found their support team most helpful - the few times really that I have found it necessary to phone them.

I live in Edinburgh the Capital of Scotland and am a consultant having spent over twenty years in the IT theatre.

                          Hi, Richard

I am based in Plymouth DEVON not a stones throw away from one of A5's UK distributors (Plympton, DEVON).

I am currently using A5 V4.5 and in the process of updating a
number of customer databases from A5 V1.03.

I would be very much interested in a UK user group as many
heads would make our single worn out brains more at ease.

I would be interested in a Beta Version of A5 V5 to give me an
insight into how far I can enhance my current databases and new
                          projects.

                              Hi Richard

I work for a local authority in North East England and have used Alpha products for some seven or eight years. I currently use A5 version 4.5 and 4.5 runtime to deploy a number of database applications on a small departmental network.

My employer has standardised upon Microsoft Access/Visual Basic/SQL-Server products for system development and, to the best of my knowledge, I am the only Alpha developer on the payroll. It can get a little lonely sometimes.

I would definitely be interested in forming a local user group.
