Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    export

I recently upgraded from alpha5 version 4 to version 5. Since then an export that I run daily goes to the wrong path. It is going to the path where the database is instead of where I need it to go. i have changed it and replaced it to no avail. Any ideas?

    RE: export

Tell us a little more about the export...how was it setup, originally? What program do you export to? (Could you go to that program and import Alpha into it, instead?)

I am exporting data from a table into a text file for use on another application.

        RE: export

Wade, when you use the Export Genie and you get to where you need to name the export file, click on the folder to find the folder you want to import it to, name it, and it will export it and save it to that folder/name.

Is this what you're hoping to do?

          RE: export

That is what I have done and the way that it ran before I did the upgrade. Now no matter where I tell it to go it defaults to the folder where the database resides.

            RE: export

Okay, if you go into design mode of the saved export, does it show the correct path(s) and filename beside Export file?

              RE: export

Yes. It is correct there. That is why it is blowing my mind. Everywhere I can think to look it is setup correctly.

                RE: export

You've checked to be sure the folder you have named truly exists, and that it is spelled correctly and all that?

Are you on a network? If so, has the network filing structure changed in any way?

I'm pretty much stumped, at this point, as I don't know much about the internal workings of a network.

So what happens when you go to Windows Explorer and look for the folder and file? Is it simply there with no data? Is it possible that your exporting old data over old data and just thinking you're exporting a different/newer set of data?

                  RE: export

No network changes, the network path I am trying to go to does exist. I was actually running this same script for about 2 years with version 4. The really strange thing is when you run the script it tells you which file it is going to overwrite and it is in the wrong location. i had to write a batch job to move it where it needs to be. But yes i checked the data and it is writing current data.

If you don't have any more ideas i do appreciate your help and maybe someone else will have an idea.

                    RE: export

Gosh darnit, then...to me it seems network related somehow, but I just am not skilled there. Sorry that I didn't solve it for you :(

I suggest you start a new post, since this one has several replies. If you post a new one, indicate everything you've tried so that another person who can help you won't have to start at the beginning again.

Good luck! Keep at it, though. I KNOW someone here has the answer...
