Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

2nd Annual Alpha 5 Developers Conference

The 2nd annual Alpha 5 Developers conference is in the works. We are in the final planning stages and all the details are not yet finalized. You can check out the details at www.a5conference.com.

We wanted to break from tradition and not work on Sunday. In addition, as we were working on subjects to cover we discover there is too much to cover in 2 days so we expanded it to 3 days. The dates are November 8 thru November 10, 2001. Thursday through Saturday. Location is Scottsdale, AZ.

When you read the schedule, you will notice that we are working on 3 workshop tracks based on the room number. Room 1 will carry Alpha 5 basics and Alpha beginners, Room 2 will carry workshops on planning, creating demos, designing, pricing and marketing your applications. Room 3 is being directed to advanced Alpha 5 use. Room 4 will carry some duplicate workshops, depending on demand.

We have some speakers confirmed at this point, some are familiar to Alpha 5 community and some new faces. We are excited about the response so far. Hopefully we will have the conference price determined by the 15th of February, so far we expect it to be in $330 range (AV equipment is horribly expensive to rent).

Take a look at the web site and let us know what you think. Please comment on anything, we want to hear from. The conference is for all of us, so we want to make it something everyone benefits from.

We do have a special Southwestern experience planned for the reception at the conference. We are also working on day time excursions for those who want to bring along a significant other, as well as before and after excursions for those who want to see the sights here in the Southwest (including the Grand Canyon). These details are not finalized yet and will be based on demand.

    thanks,
    mike reed

Mike, sounds great (especially since I am a graduate from St. Mary's High School in PHX).

Thanks, Mike. I will check out the site and will probably plan to attend. I like the location and format as well as the timing. My sister lives in Phoenix, about a mile from Scottsdale, and I could combine this with a visit with her.

I'm also getting error 404, address doesn't exist. what's up??

Also, I'm in the UK and there was going to be a CD or something available for us in the ol' country to see what we missed from the first conference. Any news on this??

I initially logged on to the site very shortly after the iniital post. Later, upon trying to log in again, I discovered that it was not working. I contacted Mike via email.
Mike stated he was aware of the problem and that due to an illness in the family, he was not able to devote some time to get it up and running.

I'm hoping this will be acomplished within the next week or two.

The Web Page is up and running again. Apparently there was a problem with DNS server not pointing correctly. But its working now.
