Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Format with $

In a numerical field which, when formated 123,457.78, works just fine. Enter 10 and it shows as 10.00.

However, If I change the format to $123,456,78 and enter 10, as soon as I tab out of the field an extra 0 is added and it's now $100.

I also notice a difference in the field when it gets focus. The 0.00 disappears while in the field formatted with the $ is highlighted.

Any thoughts as to why this occurs?

    Thanks,

    Ken,

    I don't see a format option like you're describing.

    I see

    Code:
    $123,456.78
and it behaves correctly in testing with a 10
wide numeric field including 2 decimals.

Please post a working (misbehaving example), or furnish
    more details.

      RE: Format with $

Tom, Attached is a jpg which shows the format options. If I use the $123,456.78 option, then it adds the 0. If I use the 123,456.78 option (the one below the $) then it works fine.

Field in question is: 1st Deposit. The field rule is set to position the cursor at the end of selected text. To add insult to injury, it is not consistant. In other words, This can work A-OK in another form using the same field.

Pic 2 Shows the format options

Pic 3 Shows format with the $. When tabing to this field to enter a number, the cursor goes to the middle, between the $ and the 0.

Pic 4 shows the same field formated w/o the $. when the field received focus, all 0's were cleared. enter 10 and all is well.

Pic 8 shows another attempt, this time the cursor goes to the beginning of the field.

Pic 9 shows the field formatted w/o the $ but the cursor again went to the middle.

Pic 10 shows the field formated w/the $. 10 was entered but as soon as the tab kkey was pressed, $100 appeared instead of $10.

Hope this will help describe the problem.

        Ken

Although there are no pics attached, I did try the same test on a form and it works fine. However, one statement you made may be the key. "This can work A-OK in another form using the same field" That indicates a high probability of a corrupted form. If compact has no effect, delete the object, save the form, compact, and then recreate the field. That should clear up the problem.

          Ken,

Yes, I have format option for $123,456.78, but not the $123,456,78 you originally described. Thought you were talking about something else. Sorry.

            Hi,

I had the jpg's in a folder and it would not let me attach the folder so I created a small zip file. When you open the forms, simply tab from the first field.

Notice the difference between forms 1,2 and 4,5 as each field gets focus.

            Thanks,

                Ahhhhhhh Nuts!!!

The file is too big even after getting rid of the data and as much as I could.

So, I'm hoping it's OK to email it to you guys. Notice how form 1 behaves as compared to form 4. The forms are based on different sets, 1:1 and 1:M. Don't know what that should have to do with it.

                Thanks,

                    Ken

I did notice a few odd things. The first time I tried form 4, I did see some anomolies. However, after I opened the form, saved, and compacted, the data entry works correctly. Form 1 has different formatting on different numeric options. Some are 12, 2, some are 10,0. On Form 4 some of the fields have the numeric field alignment set to left. It should be right. I did see the cursor in odd places, but that did not seem to effect data entry. However, that was easy to fix. Just make the numeric field objects a little wider. When I made them a little wider, the cursor was in the correct place.

Also, you code on the OnArrive causes some problems. Normally, when you go to an object to edit, the formatting goes away. However, with your event, the $ sign stays. If you remove the OnArrive, which doesn't do much, the problem goes away. If you move the code to the CanArrive, it does seem to work OK.

After making the formating consistent, making the fields a little wider, moving the code to the CanArrive, and finally compacting, it all seems to work correctly.

Thnak you for taking the time to look it over. Some things that I didn't think would make a difference, apparently do make a difference.

                      I appreciate your help,
