Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Odd Report Problem

I am getting an odd result on a report. Screenshot attached.
The report is based on a set.
The set is Link (1 char)=="prices (top part)
    =="Parameters (subreport)

The top part is the detail section.
    The bottom is a subreport.
I have a line at the top of each detail line (as a separator, it does the same thing if it's at the bottom.)
When the report is printed it prints one additional line for each record in the subreport. The additional lines are between the 2 sections. (detail, subreport)

Has anyone seen this before or have any insight?

    Thanks
    Russ

    RE: Odd Report Problem

    Russ,

Without seeing the report code, I'm guessing there is a line in the subreport or the main part of the report you are not seeing while in design mode. If you can move the division bar down a bit, is it there? Or is it at the very top of the sub report? Sometimes a line is so close to the top or division line in a report that it's very hard to see.

If you can post a zip, I'll take a look at it. If you have sensitive data, can you remove the sensitive pata portion and put in some bogus data. Or, delete most of the data and zip the tables and email them to me rather than post the zip. I deal with sensistive data day in and day out....

There are lines in the subreport also. I have attached a zip of the files. Try running the report.

          Russ,

You may not want to hear this but on my machine whether in print preview or printed to paper I do *not* get the extra lines.

There is only one report in the file you sent. Its title is "Grind Price". Correct?

It this is in fact the right report I have no hypotheses.

          Bill

Well perhaps one well-worn hypothesis: the printer driver.

              RE: Odd Report Problem

That's weird. I am running w2k latest sp. I am surprised that it would be a video driver issue. I guess anything's possible but I would have sworn it was the report writer.
I am going to try making the line conditional on the detail above it. Maybe that will get rid of the extra ones.
I guess I should also check for new video drivers, although this is worrisome as this has to run on a bunch of very different pc's.

              Thanks

                Russ,

Do the lines appear on the paper when the report is printed?

Another consideration is the printer being used. Different printers use different margins, etc and since the preview uses the printer settings, you may see different results for various printers. I use 3 different printers at work and three more at home, and none of the settings are the same. Did you try changing the print setup to another printer?

                    RE: Odd Report Problem

                    Hi all,

What Jerry says is so true. I finally realized that what I could do was install the driver for my organization's least-capable printer on my development machine and set it to windows default. I was able do this even though I didn't have the actual printer at home. However, anything I could design with that setup worked on everything in the office as all the other printers supported a bigger page size (that is smaller non-printing area), more features etc. Haven't had much trouble since then. (Actually lots of trouble--just *other* trouble.)

Yes preview and print are the same. I will try the idea of using a different printer to see if that makes a difference.

                      Thanks

This is really strange. I realized that the version I posted has left out the lines causing the problem. So I am reposting it. The original jpg shows the output I was getting. However I added the line back in this morning and it works fine. Maybe I just had to restart Alpha, maybe it's the phase of the moon, who knows. It works now.????

                          RE: Odd Report Problem

Actually the extra lines didn't disappear after all. All I did is make them bunch together so it looked like 1 thick line rather than 5 thin ones. There is no thick line on the report and I can't even duplicate this again - now it's back to printing the extra lines. I have printed it on a different printer with the same results.
Have a look at the post of the later version and see if you get the lines. (The first version I had removed the lines altogether.)

I think it must be a w2k problem, I am experiencing a similar issue. I have no answers. Did you happen to work it out or do you have a work around?
I am developing on a w2k server machine.

I solved the problem by making the line a conditional object, it only shows if the following is true:
                              Grind_Pricing-"Sq_In_Less_Than""""

I shouldn't have to do this but I did and it works and I moved on.
