Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Double Entry bug?

    Double Entry bug?

I'm using Double Entry validation on an embeded browse and it's got a strange quirk. When the user presses Enter after entering the value the second time, the browse "skips over" the next field and the cursor lands on the second field after the one needing the Double Entry.

Needless to say, this is a major problem when there's only one additional field after the one needing the Double Entry validation.

Anyone else seen tis or have a resolution?

    Thanks!

        Dale,
I use double entry frequently, particularly with number fields where it is imperative that the data entry operator enters the correct data. (I even do this to myself and have caught myself making an error, but the double entry mode catches it.) It's a great feature for decreasing data entry error.

That said, could your Tab Order be throwing it off, somehow? Could the operator accidentally be clicking the Enter key twice and inadvertantly landing outside the Tab Order settings?

          RE: Double Entry bug?

It's inside an embeded browse, so there's no Tab Order I can configure. I enter the first value, and press Enter or Tab, get the confirmation dialog, enter the value and click OK and the cursor is on the field *after* the next field in the embeded browse.

          I'm baffled as to why.

The application I use this on is an Order Entry system where I calculate a List Price, but the user can override this and I want the override value verified for accuracy. The double entry works, it's just the field flow that's messed up.

I can duplicate what you are seeing, but it only occurs in a browse. If you use a form to enter data, it does not jump over the next field. The problem seems to be the fact that hitting Enter after typing in the second value does not move the cursor to the next field. However, if you click the OK button on the double entry message box, the cursor does move to the next field. Since the browse is scheduled to be replaced in a later version, I don't think you will see this fixed in A5V5.

Thanks for confirming I'm not seeing things. Re-vamping the app to use a form rather than an imbeded browse isn't something I prefer to undertake, so I think the client can live with things the way they are.

                Hi,
I changed a form and after I started using it I realized that every record appears twice. If I delete one it takes the other out. So either I double the info or I don't have any. Any idea how to resolve? how/why it started?

                Thanks

                  Re: Double Entry bug?

I doubt that your issue is a double entry problem.

It was interesting that you found this link and I congratulate on using the search feature to look for information about your issue.

I would guess that you have a form based on a set and somehow the set definition is causing the appearance of duplicate records. But I'll also guess that the records are not really duplicated...

Can you share the details of the form, the set it is based on, and the tables of the set?

Or did my guessing lead down the wrong road?

                    Hi Al,
It's just a table. I enter daily mileage for a number of vehicle, number of drivers. each record is a trip with start mile, end mile and total. When it started duplicating, since I total the total, the number of trips increased as well as the mileage.

Ok, so that road was wrong....

Must be why I have a navigation system in my car. It's always telling me where to go....

Sounds like it's time to look at your system. Can you load a sample here or email it?

Does a default browse for the table show duplicates?
