Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Progressive lookup

I followed the example for a progressive lookup in a database of mine and it works great.

I then tried to make a button to show all records and this proved to be more difficult.

The only way I could clear the filter set in the script was to run the same script and change the lookup value to 0 or a to start at the beginning of all my records.

Is there a simple script or method to clear the progressive lookup filter?

    TIA

    RE: Progressive lookup

    Chris,

If you used Action Scripting to create the progressive lookup, create a new action which sets the value of the input variable to "".

Place this action above all other actions in the script.

If you used X-Basic to create the progressive lookup, define the value of the variable at the top of the X-Basic.

I tried that but the variable was not present in the list.

        Chris,

Did you create the progressive lookup in Action Scripting or Raw X-Dialog?

            RE: Progressive lookup

Let's make sure we're on the same page...

I assume that the problem you are having is that the very first time you run the progressive lookup, all records are shown and the input variable is blank, and that...

the next time you run the progressive lookup, the input variable has what you typed into it last time still there and the list is where it was the last time you used the lookup.

Is this the problem you are experiencing?

If not, could you give a more detailed explaination?

              RE: Progressive lookup

When I run the lookup it works perfectly.

If I pick say "FA" all records "= "FA" are displayed. Then pressing next record shows the next record " "FA".

Pressing first record takes me back to "FA" first record. I cannot view "A" records unless I run the lookup again and enter "A".

The show all icon is greyed out nad cannot be selected.

Now I think I understand what you are experiencing.

Have you tried (as a test) placing a button on your form to "Show All Records"?

Shure did with no success. So far I have to manualy reset the filter variable with the same exact script.

                  Kind of clumsy.

I found something in the action scripting docs which solved the problem.

                    Thanks all for your help.

                        RE: Progressive lookup

I was using the wrong methods to change the filter.

Through action scripting I was able to set a script to show all the records, essentially clearing the filter. The filter functions were there the whole time.

Some time when you get caught up in the complexities you miss the simple solurions.

I found the basic proceedures in the action scripting documentation. And it was realy much simpler than I thought.

I'm still learning and realy do not remember each step so I can only point you to the solution and tell you it is not tough.
