Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Feild Rule Filter

I am having a problem with a feild rule filter. It was working one minute and then I played a bit and lost it.
In the products table when you choose Category the feild fills in with the Category type. The next feild Commodity should fill in with the Commodity based on the category type in the Commodity Table.
    Example;
    Name Commodity
    Ladies Tops Ladies Wear
    Jeans Casual Outer Wear
    Hiking Boots Casual Foot Wear

I can't get the Feild table lookup to show the Name based on the Commodity type.

    Hi Leah,

Your zip file is either invalid or corrupted. That's the message I get when I tried to unzip it.

If a word is spelled correctly in one place and incorrectly in another, (like "feild" vs "Field")it won't match. I don't usually point out spelling errors, (I make my share) but this one is spelled the same way all 4 times.

At any rate, we will need a good zip file.

      RE: Feild Rule Filter

first off, I noticed that there were hard paths to the lookup tables, which I removed. you would never hard path them, unless maybe they were in a different folder. before you look at mine, look at your lookups and note they reference the e drive, etc., and then look at mine and note that they don't reference any path (the current adb location)

then, I put a filter in commodity that will only display records where the commodity in commodity.dbf = products-"category

so, if the category is Casual Wear, only Casual Wear products will display

I think this is what you want

Also note that I changed the lookup to pop up, force closest match, middle center, and unchecked maximize display - then I changed the width of the display's for the fields - see if you like that better.

        RE: Field Rule Filter

Ok I almost always spell field wrong.
Anyhow I fixed a few of the errors in my DB, but I need the Products Table Commodity Breakdown Field to filter like the Commodity Field. I have everything set up but I am not sure how get the field rule to filter. If you look at the product name table you will see that I have names and the Commodity they belong to. All I need is the Product table to show the right items per Commodity Breakdown.

            RE: Field Rule Filter

I see that way the commodity breakdown field is done. What I would like to know is how to get the drop down to show only the items the right commodity. Right now its showing them all. In the the Products table the Commodity Field is filtered with 'Commodity=products-"category'. so that only the items in the right category fill in. What is the filter for the commodity breakdown?
            I have tried
'Commodity Breakdown=products-"category' as a filter in the Commodty breakdown field in the products table, but Alpha tells me Commodity Breakdown doesn't exist. I dont know how to tell Alpha to filter names based on the commodity breakdown in the product name table.

LOL. I have another question though, how can I get the Style number to fill in when I choose a certain product? I have them in the Product Name Table.

                    RE: Field Rule Filter

I just looked at it again, and I'm not sure which field would be the one you want to use for making the choice, but, basically, when you use a table lookup for making a choice, note that that lookup can "fill" many fields, also "displaying" but not "filling" others.

Ok I think I understand. In the Products table under style number I would like the table lookup to point towards the name field in the Product Name table but fill with the Style Number.

so far I have it filling with all the Style Numbers in a dropdown when I really want a single style number based on the product name.

                            Hi Leah,

Add to your expression product name "" product name. This compares the value of the product name field in your current table with the product name in your lookup table and will fill your field with the style number for that product name.
