Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Query Genie

    Is there a way to use Xbasic to reactive the query genie?

    I would like to put it on a button so that it always pops up... I have a few people that keep "do not show" it and it is getting to be a hassle.

    What's wrong with puttin the QG on a button using action scripting?

      RE: Query Genie

      Maybe I am missing something, but this is what I have:

      I have a form that is set up with a menu and not buttons.

      On that menu is locate CFS. The code for locate CFS is:

      this.query_by_form()
      this:CFS.value = askc_CFS
      this.query_run()

      In version a5v4 it would bring up a box and ask for CFS then run the CFS...

      For some reason now it is not bringing the box up, but it would bring up the query genie...

      I would prefer it to revert back to the old way with the ASK box coming up, perhaps I need to use UI_DLG_BOX, but if not If I can always make it activate CFS and then bring up the genie for Query by Form, that would work too...

        RE: Query Genie

        ok... I still would like to know if that is possible, but in the meantime I rewrote the old code using ui_dlg_box and I at least now get the dialog box to pop and get the info, but it will not run the query... this is what I came up with:

        DIM shared getcfs as C
        dim CFS_var as c
        this.query_by_form()
        CFS_var= ui_dlg_box("Enter CFS",
        CFS: [8.10getcfs,];
        {lf};
        CFS should look like this : 00-00000;
        {lf};
        ;
        %dlg%,
        if a_dlg_button = "OK" then
        this:CFS.value=getcfs
        this.query_run()
        end if

        if a_dlg_button = "Cancel" then
        this.cancel()
        end if
        %code%)

        Frustrated...

          Have you tried creating a button and with action scripting, place the Query by Genie on it? You can choose whatever form or browse you want as well as the parent form.

          You can even save the query, if' it's one that you'd use on a regular basis and put it on a different button.

            RE: Query Genie

            Ok, I finally figured it out. This is exactly what it used to do, except I had to use a ui_dlg_box. Now I just have to figure out how to trap it if the CFS entered does not exist and exit out of the query.

            ---------------------------------------------------
            dim getcfs as c

            debug(0)

            ui_dlg_box("Enter CFS",
            CFS: [8.10getcfs];
            {lf};
            CFS should look like this : 00-00000;
            {lf};
            ;
            %dlg%,
            if a_dlg_button = "OK" then
            this.query_by_form()
            this:CFS.value=getcfs
            this.query_run()
            end if

            if a_dlg_button = "Cancel" then
            this.cancel()
            end if
            %code%)
