    Default Disappearing Data

    Hi All:

I'm a new user with alpha ver 5.0. I am having trouble with data disappearing from a set. When I browse the single table all data is present, when I browse the set the data is not there until I scroll to the bottom, and when I start scrolling back up the table the data suddenly appears, when you reach the top the data disappears. I have 3 tables in the set two are fine, the thrid has the problem.
Ref integrity is identical between the two. If I open just the single table (not the set) the data is fine.
    Any idea's would be appreciated.

    Paul

Does the third table have a series of records that contain blank fields?

    Thanks for your reply.

No; the third table dosn't have any blank records, not all of the fields are filled in all the records, it contains some logical fields.

    Paul,

Is it possible you're seeing blank fields cause these records have sorted to the top of the browse object?

Are you running Windows 98 with low system resources?

Are you using hardware acceleration with your video display adapter?

I ask these questions cause it sounds as though you're having a display problem rather than actually losing data, right ?

    Paul,

You may have fixed this a long time ago, or you may have given up, but I've just seen a situation that mimics what you reported in the A5V5 forum last February.

If you mistakenly define an autoincrement field rule for the same field that's used to link a child table to its parent, the link will be broken when the field rule increments the field value. This has the effect of saving a new record to the child table with some but not all blank fields. It also breaks the link, of course, causing the data to seem to disappear from the set based form.
