Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Was the HTML Shut off??

Does anyone know if the HTML was shut off on this board??

    Lenny??

RE: Was the HTML Shut off??

It was not. However you now need to make sure you check the "Use HTML" box if you want to use HTML code. If you do not, your HTML will be displayed. The change was made to fix the problems with people pasting " charcaters. SOrry fot the inconvenience.

So you are saying that we can now embed "a tag" in the text and it will show up?

            Just testing :-)

This has nothing to do with this board, but the whole thing with embedding codes to generate html reminds of ye' ancient DOS days. That's the kind of stuff I used to have to do with PC-Write. Jeez! What's that saying? - "eight steps forward, seven steps backwards", or the farther I go, the further behind I get.

But you must now use FULL HTML - including the "br""br" tags at the end of every paragraph. No more partial HTML just to highlight one thing.

The biggest problem with this is remembering to click the Use HTML box before sending the message. Basically, this means it will now be a rare thing to see colors, italics, etc. in any of my posts. I've already messed up two posts tonight.

                    Cal,

I am with you there. Seems we will have more messed up posts now then before, but I guess I see Lenny's point.

An after I almost got the hang of this :(

Peter, the more things change the more things stay the same. Embedding special characters and 'delimiters' has remained the most useful method for handling special text formatting needs. Word and WordPerfect do it, also, but it's handled behind the scenes so you don't see it. Extensions to HTML found in XML lean on the technique even more heavily. -- tom

OK, looks like I have it fixed. Now with HTML enabled, you do not need to add "BR" or "P" tags to create new lines, a carriage return is enough.

As for remembering to check the HTML box, that one has gotten me a couple of times too. I will look at having the new posts scanned for potential HTML if you did ot check the box and give you a remonder to turn it on or the code will be displayed as-is instead of interpreted. I can't spend any time on it today, but I will try to do it this weekend.
