    Default Button Passwords w/Runtime

Is it possible for an end user who is using an application created with a runtime license to change passwords on a button. If so, how?

    Thank you

I don't quite understand the question. If the question is, can a user chage a password using a button, the answer is yes. However, if there is an embedded password on the code on the button, the answer is no, since they can't get to any of the code in runtime. A more detailed explanation would be helpful.

Once you've set the password on a button, the run-time can't change it.... unless you create your own button (and password table), then use the button's "onpush" event to allow users in.

You can add/delete passwords in the actual table. You can encrypt the table, if you don't want the user to see the passwords.

Back in July 2002, I downloaded a small demo that uses this method in the Code Forum

That makes sense. I never use the password option on a button and didn't even notice the option in properties. I usually have a logon scheme and hide / show buttons as needed, or have my own password code on the button code, so I don't need the option in properties. Thanks for the little lesson

    Hi Steve --

For those instances where a button ought to be password protected, I think you should establish a [secure] table of passwords. Then instead of using the existing property setting of the button, use a security function at the front of the button's OnPush event that prompts and tests for the prompted password. With this method, there's a table that contains the various passwords so, with the right clearance, the end user can change passwords, even in runtime.

    Gettin' to your stuff soon....

    Hi Steve,

???? Isn't that exactly what I said? [big grin]

See the sample code that uses a password table.

    Yup. OK, new answer:

    "What he said."

I'm supposed to be getting a project underway with Steve Schulman soon (um, ok, was supposed to be a while ago) so I was anxious to help.
