Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi All,

Is there a way to fix the column size in the Control Panel?

      RE: Control Panel ?

I think he means "set it to a different width that will remain the same the next time it's opened."

I agree that, although a minor issue, this would be a nice feature. Especially in the detail view where I find myself increasing the Full Name column by at least 50% almost every time.

I usually keep my table names relatively short so that isn't an issue for me but it may be for others.

Fix as in Hold in Place.

Can it be done or is this a V6 solution.

Solution as in answer to a question, not a Liquid :-)

Ok, some of us believed (prayed?) that the CP in ver. 6 would be re-written entirely, presumably in xdialog. Yes?

Aaron, is it possible to have two columns, ie.,

Table/Set Full Name Modified Table/Set Full Name Modified

With many tables it often must be scrolled.

              Thanks

While we are talking about possible (hoped for) changes to the CP in V6, here is one that I'd love to see. In all the columns, EXCEPT Tables/Sets, we can use uppercase letters in names. For whatever reason, items on the Table/Set tab will not accept upper case letters. Any chance of changing that in V6?

                      One more please, Aaron,

any danger of sortable date & time columns for items in the Control Panel?

I would suggest it would be a great help when recovering files from corrupted files/crashes as you'd know which was the best backup to use. It would also be very useful when returning to something you worked on a while ago, as you'd have an idea of the relative dates of different components of a job.

                      Thanks,
                      Trevor

                            RE: Control Panel ?

Only the tables and sets have a date/time modified because they are the only things that have a date/time associated with them.

I don't believe there is any date/time associated with individual layouts so there is nothing to list. It would require a further rewrite to add the date/time to each layout but I'm still not sure that would be terribly useful because of the possibility of making a 'change' (as far as the date/time is concerned) that really wasn't a change. I know I've closed forms many times and received a "save your changes?" prompt even though I never made any changes.

It would be a nice feature though.

FWIW: I use the date/time on the data dictionaries to determine what I have changed. Even this isn't perfect but it is a help.
