Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dates

    Have figured out how to Calc a persons age from DOB field, as follows:
    IF(ISBLANK("DOB"),0,INT((DATE()-DOB/365.25))

    So now, to go one step futher, how do I eliminate the calc result of zero (when there is no age data entered)?

    I tried changing color to White on White with:
    IF(CALC->AGE

    Have you tried to make the zero to character and then if zero "" (null value)??

      Dick,

      The predefined age() function may be an easier way to derive a person's age. -- tom

        Dick,

        If you want to chnage the colour of Text this can be done in form design mode. Right mouse click on the field and select the setup tab. Here you will see the Colour and Font Equations. Now you can make the text, font and background any colour you want depending the value of the field.

            RE: Dates

            This is a Calc field. In Browze design mode > HiLite the field > Properties > Other > Color... Then I need an expression to do White on White if age is less than 1, else Black on White. The one I created shows an accurate result, but A5 says its not logical and thus won't allow it. When I click "Okay" it bombs out.

              Possible. Could you send the expression to use?

                Thanks, it worked!
                The DOB fields that have no data calculate to "2003". Now what I need is to find a way to null out, or white out these no data fields.
                Still need somne help.
                and thanks again.

                  RE: Dates

                  Think carefully about what you're color equation is saying (with a bit of exaggeration...) - "If the age is less than one, use White on White, otherwise throw it into a black hole."

                  Try something like:
                  IF(CALC->AGE

                      Still no go.
                      Using the equation suggested, I still get "does not evaluate as logical" from A5.
                      Maybe there is some other way to null, or blank out the "2003" result when there is no data in the DOB field.
                      Any further clues?

                        RE: Dates

                        You may be entering the expression incorrectly. From your reported error message it would seem that Alpha is expecting a logical result for the expression. A color equation does not return a logical result, but does involve a logical test or tests.

                        IF(CALC->AGE
                        There can be only one.

                          Perhaps the problem is in the Calc->Age field - (a) it isn't returning a numeric result??? or (b) A5 doesn't like using a calc field here.

                          If (b) is the problem, I'd try entering the equation (cut-and-paste) directly into the original color equation box and not using the expression genie. Sorry, but I don't have time to check it myself right now - the 'boss' would probably shoot me if she knew I was taking time to even look at this message board!

                            Problem Solved, thanks to your attach. So now I have age calculated using Age Function [age(dob)] and using your attach, if no data entered in dob field, then it's colored out with white on white.
