If you go directly to a menu on startup and you have 'hidden the control panel' ---- can you get to the control panel from a hotspot that is on the form????

Yes to your question .. Putting the code to show the control panel on the 'OnPush' event of the hotspot does it.

you might want to consider putting a password on that also so no one else but you can get to it just incase they find the hotspot.

Because I know from reading other threads here, Alpha do work better when the commands or actions are done in certain orders, even though they all should work by theory.

In earlier "conversations" I was told to close the form b4 opening the new form....

I'm still learning and following advice...

Is there an accepted way...

Right now I'm just leaving main menu open and opening anc closing sub-element forms

If you want to really hide the button and/or make it easier for you to use, here are some other ideas.

This is the script for my "Ctr_Pnl_btn":

IF left(api_getmachinename(),7)">""your_machine_name>"
IF a5_is_runtime() .or. a5.Get_Master_Path()">"" .or. parentform.Mode_Get()"View"
END
END IF
END IF
ControlPanel.show()
parentform.Close()

and, you can add this to the form's OnActivate event:

IF a5_is_runtime() .or. a5.Get_Master_Path()">""
this:Ctr_Pnl_btn.hide
END IF

There's no need to include the reference to your own machine in the OnActivate event because accessing the control panel from the runtime or the shadow database really won't do you much good. You can get there but you really can't get to what you need in most cases.

Dang, I left out a whole section of the first script. I also left in the "left(xxx,7)" which I use so I can have 2 machines whose names both start with the same first 7 characters.

Let's try it again:

The result is that the button (a) does nothing for anyone if using the runtime or running shadowed, (b) automatically opens the control panel when run on your own computer (what are the odds of someone else having your same name and trying to get into your program?) and, (c) requiring a password from anyone else.
