Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Next Patch?

I was just wondering whether someone from Alpha could give us an idea of when the next patch might be out?

    Thanks in advance

    RE: Next Patch?

What problems, issues are you hoping will need to be addressed by the patch/update?

This isn't an underhanded attempt to get someone here at Alpha to say something like..."why issue patches for v5, when v6 release is imminent" is it?

I daresay v5 users haven't seen more updates/patches for v5, as most of the developers are focusing their sights on v6 enhancements.

ETA on v6 is still 1st quarter of 2004 (Jan-Mar).

        Jeannette,

A number of users are also having trouble with MPX files being saved to their desktops on exit.

Plus, I need complete SQL functionality. I have to fall back to VFP to update a MSSQL database. Can we download V6 beta?

Please post the question for v6 and SQL under a new forum discussion.

I will direct one of the developers to this thread to review the current updates sought for v5.

              Hi Jeanette:

I just want to echo what Tom Cone said. I've been receiving complaints from clients and on my machine, there are MPX files popping up everywhere. This is not a major issue, however, it is very annoying.

              Thanks,
              Robert

                RE: Next Patch?

There is also 2 small bugs with form based tree controls. This was my email with Selwyn dated back in Aug of this year.

                At 02:38 PM 8/6/2003 -0400, you wrote:

Thank you, I have noticed that increasing the display width to 70 does correct the problem if that helps you any.

ok, that makes sense. if the a5 was only considering the first 40 characters of the value. the first difference in the value selected was past position 40.

i still think it is a bug that a5 did not automatically do this. it should have ignored the format setting.

Also, is it possible to dynamically change the tree object on a form setting a different sort order? I have not been able to find anything. I did try changing the tree2.choice.populate_expression, but got very unstable reactions. I can do this in XDialog, but I need to do it on a form object if possible.

currently you can't do this. when you try to change the tree control properties through xbasic, the tree control behaves bizarrely. we will fix this.

                  Hi Jeannette,

Is there an Alpha response to the Mpx that we have missed?

                    RE: Next Patch?

The issue that is currently causing me problems is the 1:1 set issue. This was fixed but appears to not work again in the latest patch (1498-1051) I can work around it but would prefer not to change my table structure unless I have to.

It is however exciting to hear that the eta for v6 is 1st qtr and I can wait for v6 and will upgrade as soon as it's available. It does seem however that v5 should be patched up where possible for those who will not upgrade. (Probably only 1 or 2 people worldwide)

                        Hi Jeanette,

I am really looking forward to the repairs on the MPX-issue.

In my eyes, it is quite a problem when they keep popping up on clients desktops.

As I learned from this forum, the problem arised from the latest patch and is known to Alpha already.

                        Regards,

                        Marcel

                        Tom: Thanks !

                          RE: Next Patch?

I am so tired of the MPX issue I want to scream. Every time someone says they should only pop up here, thye pop up over there! I change this or that and they stop. Then 2 weeks later, there they are again, more numerous than ever.

Plus, there have to be a pretty big bunch of other bugs. Here are 3 I am pretty sure Selwyn is aware of:

                          1. Can't print charts with my chart application or with Jerry's calendar add-on (the fix is already done, we just need it to be released!).

                          2. Tables opened by print jobs on dialog forms do not close when the form is closed (yes, there is a workaround, but it needs to be fixed).

                          3. Has anyone mentioned those @#$%&@# MPX files? !!!!!!!!

                          4. Memory is failing me now, but it has been a while since the last patch and I have to believe Selwyn has a long list of bugs that should be fixed before v6 is here.

                          Ray

                            Build 1051 released 9-26-03, I think.

V6 means new revenue, patch doesn't.

                              Stan,

I can't believe they would see it like that Stan. Everybody who is in business for some time knows that there is no point in aqcuiring new customers if you are not able to keep the ones you already have.
Customers are your most valuable asset.

What I do believe is, that it is of course important to create new software (revenues) and that personell is always scarce.

But in those cases one should give attention to the right balance. You can not reserve 100% of the assets for new software developement and none for patches.

I think and hope it will be correctly repaired before the next version arrives.

                              Regards,

                              Marcel
