Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is there any chance you might have dragged and dropped it off your screen? I have done this multiple times with Windows toolbars.

      Hi Mark,

I found this in the Help section:

If you don't see the Toolbox, make sure you're in Design Mode, and that the Toolbox button is pressed in.

Since I am not sure which toolbar icons you are missing it is difficult to be more specific.

      Good luck

          Hi Mark,

I am sorry but I still do not fully understand exactly what you are getting when you load A5. You said a box is there but it is greyed out. Exactly what box do you see?

The Control Panel tab that you would see at the bottom is selected under View >> Window Bar.

You can also look under View >> Settings and see if something is set in there for the toolbars, I was unable to find anything specific there that would view or hide the toolbars though, so not sure that will be much help.

            Mark

I agree with Cheryl, the description of the problem is a bit vague. How about a screenshot or an example? Typically, toolbar icons are grayed out if that function is not available in the current context. For example, you create a new table and open the default browse. Since there are no records, the default browse goes immediately into enter mode. In that mode, many of the toolbar icons are not active and therefore grayed out.

Without knowing the context of the problem and the actual icons grayed out, it is not possible to evaluate the issue.

              RE: missing toolbar icons

hey guys, i fixed the problem. first let me try to explain the problem. when you execute a5, to start the program, the first screen you see, is a popup menu that shows the databases you have created and gives you the opportunity to choose which d-base to load and work in.
next to each d-base is an icon that looks like a small disc.
also there are icons ex."folder open" next to the choices for opening the d-base ex. "more databases" (in blue letters).
these icons are blanked out with discolored box.
if you would like to create the problem, right click on a blank area of your screen, then properties, then settings and change your color quality to 32bit color, apply and ok.
now load a5 and you will see what i see. this is also the fix.
go back and change settings to 16 bit color display and your icons will be like new.

                Mark

That would appear to be a video problem with your computer. I can use 32 bit color on a number of computers with different video cards and drivers. One thing you can try is to reduce the video hardware acceleration. That sometimes seems to help.
