    Default Runtime Security Settings

I've just noticed that in the control panel of the runtime version, that a user can open up a query, make changes, and save it. It appears they can only do this to queries and not to any other type of operation. Two questions; why is this allowed, and is there a way to restrict it?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

You can prevent the user from opening the control panel.
Or is this a too easy thought of me ?

    Kind regards,

    Marcel

    Marcel,
We actually need them to be able to access the control panel to run several operations because we don't want to overcrowd our forms with buttons. Appreciate your input.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Dave,

Marcel is on track. You must hide the control panel to acheive reasonable system security. If you have a problem with form overcrowding you might consider taking a look at creating custom menues.

Thanks for your suggestion Marc. We'll probably have to go the route of restricting the control panel.

See, see! This is exactly the kind of thing I said a while back that that we used to see more of on this forum, and that I for one would like to see a lot more of. One can learn quite a bit by sudying these few lines and trying them in one's own situation. Okay, maybe we see just as much on the forum as we used to for all I know (I don't want to revisit that discussion!). In any case, thanks John, for sharing this little snippet.
