Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Multiplying all of the numbers in a field by 1000

How do I multiply all of the numbers in a field by 1000, then add commas for separating thousands. I presently have all of the numbers as for example, 95765.35 (that is, 95765.35 thousands). I'd like to convert this to read as 95,765,350. How could I do this for all of the entries in a field (excepting, of course, the field name)? I'd appreciate an e-mail on this as I'm new to AlphaFive and my time is too limited to search the message board. Besides, I really don't know how or where to start searching this huge board.

    Lloyd,

Check the structure of your table:

    1) Verify that the field type is Numeric.

    2) Verify that the field width is going to be large enough to handle the size of the resulting products. I think 18 or 18 digits are permitted, but the decimal point uses one, and so do the spaces following the decimal.

Then define an Update Operation to replace current values with

    YourFieldName * 1000

Commas are not stored in numeric fields. They are added by selecting a preferred display format in your form.

Hope this helps in the limited time you have available.

Thanks, Tom! I'm presently inputting the data in my Quattro Pro 9 spreadsheet which shows the number 95765.350 correctly in the cell, but in the window above, where corrections can be made, as 95765.35. Removing the decimal in QP 9 only makes the number 9576535, which would be incorrect. Corel, whose spreadsheet QP 9 is, has informed me that that is the way all spreadsheets function and there is nothing that can be done about it. I'd have to hunt down all similar cells in the spreadsheet and manually change them. As there are 91 columns with 6,313 rows each (574,483 cells), doing this might take a very long time and I could still miss a few.

        Hello Lloyd,
Can you send me a very small sample of the spreadsheet?
And I will give it a try.

            Hello Lloyd,

I did some changes in column P and Q of your Quattro file.
            Basically it involes 2 steps:

            1. Multiplying the existing values by formulas.
Cell address*1000 into some working rows below your table.

            2. Then copying back the new values into the original cells. However this time round, do not use the normal 'Paste' command. Instead use the 'Paste Special' command and untick/unselect the 'Formula Cell' option. This will effectively transfer only the 'values' ( rather than formulas ) back into the original cells.

I believe the end results you wanted was in column 9.

I am sending the spreadsheet back to you by email.

            Chris

Unclear. I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean. Please clarify before I proceed to No. 2 below.
