Default Memo Feild - competitors have the edge!

I have created a number of letter templates for my application that has standard sample text for review, should the user want to change the information I provided a form that allows the user to change the text.

The letters are initially created using four individual Memo Field (positioned as paragraphs). The user can access each paragraph field and re-type, update as per the requirement, thus creating as many paragraphs as they want.

The issue I have is the Alpha Memo Field does not allow the inclusion of calculated fields! This I believe is available with Access and Lotus in their applications.

What are the possibilities of Alpha updating the A5 to allow calculated fields to be entered in Memo Fields using say a simple genie icon in the expanded memo frame, perhaps next to the ‘Insert Date/Time Stamp’ icon!

Is the Insert Date/Time Stamp a sort of auto field? Can’t we expand the function to include the calculated fields from the table or set?

    Just a thought!
    Regards
    Andy

    Andy,

You can include calculated fields in a RTF.

    Hi Keith,

Yes you can, great feature - however, an end user who does not have the authorisation to change the application would benifit from a feature where a they can create text in memo feilds linked to a Letter creation function which woulod include a genie for adding calculated data. For example, say they have a letter starting:

    Dear "title> "Lname>,
Please be aware your total shipment volume is "TotalVolume> etc...

What a bonus this would be?

    Regards
    Andy

    Andy,

Maybe you could program a button that would pop up a list of predefined calc fields. When the user picks one, the script looks at the memo field text, inserts the calc field at it's end. Wonder if such a thing could be done ?

    Hey guys,

There is an action scripting event called "place text in a memo field". I have used this to place predefined HTML code strings in email template memo fields on a form with great success for many months. Just a set of buttons with defined input codes and the above action script. Seems quite doable for some dialogue guru - Jerry are you out there :) - to make a button pop up a list of definable input selections. You could also use a "standardized" set of basic input variables to create more a generic script.

Hi Andy. I just found your post and was wondering if you could help me. I created a letter table which holds many different types of letters such as Welcome Letter, Un-Paid Dues Letter, etc. What I want to do is have the user select which letter he want's to print and then from another tbl (client), tag certain records to send the letter to (like a mail merge).

Are you doing somethin like this and if so, can you explain how it's done..

    Thanks,
    Rudy
