Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

generate a filtered browse in email

anyone can help to achieve this:

at this time, in order to generate a list of records in a email , i can only achieve it by:
    a. make an 'operation' to query those reocrds meet certian condition;
    b. make a specific report for those fileds to appear.
    c. same this report as a word file
    d. copy and pase from word file to email
    e. edit AGAIN in word file
    d. then FINALLY send,,,
,,,, which take me a lot times,

This is not a good way in the Time is Money world!!!
    ----------------------------------------------------

I remember ACCESS can do it quicker because ACCESS can make a report based on a query ( one kind operation in A5V5 )....

Is there no other way to make our work quicker and easier with A5V5 ????

Your any kind of suggestion is welcome sincerely here !

Thank you all very much !

RE: generate a filtered browse in email

    Hi Sean,

Why don't you just transform your report into a PDF or WORD document, and attach it to the email? It is a lot easier.

You can go into action scripting, and use send a report by email, it is perfect for what you are doing. You could just attach it to a button on a form, and away it goes.

Also there was an addin, to do reports on the fly. Look on the Alpha site for this.

If you goto the "frequently asked questions" link at the top of this page, then goto the tips link - at the very bottom of the page is a "How to include a browse in email" function and script.

RE: generate a filtered browse in email

thanks, but may be we are in different world, if there is a plain text email or there is a mail with attachment. do you think reading a plain text email is more preferable ? especially when we talking about business instead sharing cute thing with your friend?

on the other hand , a lot people dare not to or unwilling to open an attached file because:
        1. it might be a virus
        2. who knows what is it may be just wasting time. why i bother open another window application to open this file , i need to read other emails.
        3. the other easy-reading eamil contain the same information , why i bother open it.
        4. some companies, a lot companies system only allow plain text, even not html file...

t4, an attached email is not acceptable here.

eventhough the attached file may be beutiful, and i still think it only make thing more complicated for us.

oh, in ACCESS can may just copy several records and paste into email and edit it again.. but in A5V5 you CANNOT do copy in Form/Brows/Table/Operation etc.

        thank you anyway.

but you think we can use x base to do a query ? i only need sorted/queried items instead of all records in a browse.

            regards/sean

RE: generate a filtered browse in email

If you perform your calculations/filtering at the form level - you can:
              1. First use the email client to build a text mail with the merge fields from the browse you want.
              2. Then copy the merge fields code into tables in a wysiswyg HTML editor.
              3. Edit the HTML page to your desired format.
              4. Then copy the HTML code back into the email client and save the template in the A5 library.
              5. Create a basic script to send that template with the current record (This goes in the "On-Push Event" of the button in the next step).
              6. Now you can put a button right on the browse form and send it as a custom HTML email with one click.

I have done this on a browse for price quotes with unlimited line items, cost per, and total mount due with quite attractive report like results in the email body.
