Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Form "lost"

    A5V5, build 1491-1048, on Windows 2000 Professional.
My "primary" form has somehow become disfunctional. Primary in that it is the form used for order input ("frmMaster"). In Design, the form is there. In View, all the fields are missing; however, I can move through records via the vcr controls, but there are no fields on the form. At the bottom it shows both the Control Panel and frmmaster open.
I have restored all the applicable files with the same result.
(Alpha4 had it's advantages in that the forms, reports, etc were separately identified. Not so here, they're all lumped in the *.d files. Bummer)
With the modifications I was making to the OnChange items yesterday, things should not have gone south, but they did. Is there a way to verify the set upon which the form is based? I tried duplicating the form; however, it does not provide the opportunity to select the table/set upon which the form is based. It would appear that this would be a most handy feature.
Guess I'll have to keep going back on restoring the backups until I get it back - although that means losing all the work done since the successful restore.
Anyone else have a similar situation? If so, how was it resolved (other than keep going back in the backups)?

Have you tried compacting the database?

      RE: Form

Yes, I compact it on a regular basis. Just went back again and to compact it after reading your comment. It compacts fine, but the problem remains. Is there a way to reidentify, the set upon which the form is based? As I said, the design view does contain all the fields, the view none. I checked out the folder and all seems well. The answer must lie in the link to the set, but how to reestablish it?
      Thanks Aaron for your interest.

        RE: Form

I did a 'copy' to provide an opportunity to select the set. Did so; however, the view is still without fields, though the design has 'em all.

FYI: Not the preferred solution, but I restored an older version. Have the form back in view with its fields. Now to get back to Baltic Ave, or wherever I was.

            RE: Form

Are there any tabbed sub-forms on your form? If so, the fields might be 'behind' the tabbed form.

To check, lengthen the main form and drag the tabbed form down lower. Then, even if you can't see anything, try to 'lasso' objects in the blank area where the tabbed form used to be. If you see a bunch of object handles, this is where your fields went. Unfortunately, the only solution I found was to delete them and add them back to the form again.

Cal, no, there are no tabbed subforms.
