Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calendar field type

I have an appointment form which has a field "date of appointment".I have selected calendar field type in properties. When I click on the field a calendar appears which allows me to select the date of the required appointment. This is only a minor problem but here goes. The dates do not line up accurately below the days names and occasionally we have made incorrect appointments. Is there any way to alter the spacing of the names of the days?
If not could thid be addressed in the next patch?

    RE: Calendar field type

    Gil,

I must be misunderstanding. When I pull up the calendar the numerical days of the month are centered under the day entries at the head of the columns. Are you saying this is not the case on your machine?

Some are off alignment on mine as well - I find if the user accidently clicks slightly to the right of a number it picks up the next day rather than the day they intend - as you elude, leading to errors. Yet you can click several pixels to the left of a number and still get the number to the right of it.

        Bill,

Yes the day names are not directly above the day numbers. e.g.

Sun Mon Tue Wed Thur Fri Sat

        1 2 3 4 5 6 7

        Are you not getting this?

        Thanks,

        Gil.

          Bill,

I don't think that has come out as I intended. On my screen the date numbers are more spaced out than the day names so that the last column of date numbers has no day name above them,

            Hi Scott,

My problem is that if I am making an appointment for a Friday the actual dates are lined up below the Thursday column heading. The Friday dates line up under the Saturday column headings and the Saturday dates do not have a heading at all.

Does this correspond with what you are getting?

              Gil,

I think this could be a video card driver problem. Have you got the latest driver for your graphics card and windows os? If you are using Windows XP after a few updates it can get out of synch. I had this as a problem but it got cleared up after downloading new drivers.

                    Gill,

I don't see the problem on the several machines I use(W98, XP Pro, different processors, different video cards and drivers). Everything is perfectly lined up. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

                          Gil,
even if you find differences it would be smart to visit each manufacturer's web site and download the latest drivers. I've found that even brand new machines often have drivers that are 12 months old. Often newer updates are available...

No - not that dramatic on mine - the alignment under each day is quite reasonable.

I downloaded the most recent drivers and the problem was solved on two of my three machines - so as Meatloaf said "Two out of three aint bad".
