Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help!!!, Upgraded to 1466_1044

I urgently need help. We are running our database on a network with users running the runtime. I, the developer am running the full version. We have been running 1420_1037. I just updated my machine to 1466_1044 to test it out. I installed the correct "Full version". When I opened the database, I could not access the forms, so I went into the control panel and the tables are grayed out, and the all the forms are missing. No one can now access the database.

Can anyone tell me what has happened and how to correct it? I hate to think we are going to loose a day's worth of data by running a backup from yesterday.

    Thanks for any help.

      Hi John

I added them back in. Now I have two tables and sets of each.

      Any ideas why this happened?

      Thanks

When looking at the control panel, tables/sets tab, do the full names of both the grayed out and newly added tables look exactly the same?
        There can be only one.

Yes they do. What I now did was drop the grayed out ones from the DB. This worked fine. However, now we have another problem. Somehow when we updated the shadow on one of the workstations, the actual DB on the server is now shown as a shadow. I cannot now access the network optimization menus.

Does any one know how to reconvert the DB back from a shadow?

          Thanks

            Try running database compact.

oh oh. If you overwrote the master copy w. the shadow dbf files, all your data may be gone. Hopefully you have a backup. If you didn't overwrite the dbf files, just open Alpha, point to the master adb file and open it. You should be ok in that case.

It won't compact. I think I'm up the creek on this one.

                  No backup? Yikes!

Supposedly, one of the builds some time ago, prevents accidentally overwriting the master files when opimizing or shadowing?

I hope you didn't have a lot of development time into this?

Did you by any chance download the update for the home edition instead of the full version?

Is this problem only on one workstation, or all.

If it's just one you can delete the shadow and start over. Just to be on the safe side remove the ethernet cable from that machine to make sure you don't screw up the server copy. Once you are no longer on the network, see what's on that machine for a shadow and you can delete it (or move it to somewhere else in case you need it later)

If the shadow has been moved to the server.... then I guess a restore is in order unless someone has some other solution.

I confirmed that the tables are shadowed on the server. We ran the backup so I lost the days input.

Are you running the latest patch? Maybe it was corrupted in the internet download. I will re-download it and test it on a dummy DB. I was surprised that this version affected the tables by just opening the database.

                        I will tread more carefully.

I ran the full version. Also verified the registry.

                            Hi Russ

                            The server was shadowed unfortunately.

Yeah, I got the latest patch. Check to make sure that you don't have an erroneous pathing issue - check any shortcuts you have. The patch shouldn't be the problem.
