    Default Survey Report?

    I'm trialing the Home Version, and it's been quite a few several years since I did dBase programming, and I didn't have all the menu options (clutter :), just the dot prompt, so I need some starter help, I think, then I'll be okay.

    I've got a survey of about 90 questions.
    I want to generate reports that show correlations of answers, similar to crosstabbing, but with more correlations than the crosstab examples I typically see. For example, the plain English version of some of the queries would look like these:

    - Provide a count for those records with Question_1 value of "M" that also answer Question_16 ">5 and 5 and

    Lynn:

    I will take a stabe at a solution. Based on your statement There is a single record for each Survey. Each record is a response by an individual.

    If this is correct you can query the table and set the "filter" based on the logic you have indicated in your request.

    query:
    Question_1 = "F" .and. Question_7= "Y" .and. Question_8 .and."N" .and. Question_16 = "N" .and. Question_17 = "N" .and. Question_18 = "N" .and.( Question_19 >5 .and. Quetion_19

    Both replies to date illustrate the need for careful thought when designing your import, or possibly the moving of the imported data to another Alpha table.

    I don't know how many questions will be involved in the survey but there is a 1024 character limit in Alpha for expressions. If your field names are "Question_21", etc you will run afoul of that limit much sooner than if the field names are something like "Q01" through "Q99", for example.

    Hi Lynn:
    Don't let the small price of A5v5 Home edition fool you - if all you build are single user applications then it is essentially the same as the full version - it is a very powerful product. If you imagine that you could have done this project in early dBASE, then you can do it very easily in A5v5 Home edition.

    I can't think of any reason you'd need to split your existing spreadsheet data into multiple tables to do analysis and reporting - except perhaps, to add lookups that explain meaning of survey values (e.g. 1=totally disagree .. 9=totally agree or whatever).

    If your survey allowed for long text answers - memo fields -consider that some developers put memo fields in separate tables.

    Hope you have lots of fun with Alpha!

    Bob

    To make the expression even shorter ...

    Question_1 = "F" .and.
    Question_7 = "Y" .and.
    Question_8 = "N" .and.
    Between(Question_16,5,9) .and.
    Between(Question_17,5,9) .and.
    Between(Question_18,5,9) .and.
    Between(Question_19,5,9)

    Stans way even shorter yet

    Q1 = "F" .and.
    Q7 = "Y" .and.
    Q8 = "N" .and.
    Between(Q16,5,9) .and.
    Between(Q17,5,9) .and.
    Between(Q18,5,9) .and.
    Between(Q19,5,9)
