Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Multi-select List Box Problem Help Needed

    In the attached zip I want to multi-select records using Xdialog multi-select list box. I can select a single record from the list and preview the report, but, not multiple records.

    I want to use the multi-selection option as this provides a larger list to view rather than the "prompt at runtime" option which shows a limited number of records in the drop down list.

    I searched the forum and found many references to the xdialog multi-select subject but not one the is specific to my situation.

    Many thanks

    Alan.

    Alan,

    Try this and let us know if it does the job. Copy into a new code in Alphasports.

    auto_list_cities = table.external_record_content_get("customer","Bill_city","Bill_city","unique_key_value()")
    temp_count = w_count(auto_list_cities,crlf())
    DIM a_cities[temp_count] as c
    a_cities.initialize(auto_list_cities)
    ok_button_label = "&OK"
    cancel_button_label = "&Cancel"
    varC_result = ui_dlg_box("Print Report",
    {endregion};
    %dlg%)

    if varc_result = "OK" .and. cities "" then
    filter = alltrim(cities)
    filter = *for_each(x,"bill_city = " + quote(x), filter)
    filter = alltrim(filter)
    filter = stritran(filter,crlf()," .or. ")
    report.preview("Customer List",filter)
    end if

      Keith,

      Thanks for your response but what I forgot to state is that 99% of my application is using Action Scripting and I would like to resolve this problem using Action Scripting as designed in my sample zip.

      I have not tackled xbasic so it is all Chinese to me!

          Alan,

          This is just a dialog box that is multi select. As it is already built all you need to change is the table names, field names and report names. All of these are very easy to identify in the script. As you go through it and recognise those elements soon you will be able to understand the rest of it. Then it will become less like Chinese and more like a practical tool. Give it a try.

            Alan,

            Here is another one that is almost the same but you can see better what has been selected. Just copy and paste put this onto a new xbasic code and press Run before you save it. It does work, promise.

              Keith,

              Many thanks, works perfectly. Designed xdialog box for the start and end dates in Action Scripting then converted that to xbasic and then copied your script after the date reange script, changed data to my tables etc. and bingo, fantastic!

              However, would still like to know why this could not be done in Action Scripting only.

              Happy in rainy Florida
