I'm coming at this (Alpha5) from a completely different database background and I wondered if I explained my requirements in the best way I know how, whether someone could point me in the right direction, syntactically.

I wish to post/create a number of records to a table by an argument from another table, with my current database product I would do something like this ?


define temp variable "InLoopCount" number .


For tablenameA with fieldname = global variable "WS_ID" ;

assign InLoopCount := 1 .

While InLoopCount

This shouldn't be too hard to do if we can nail down what you mean by:

"I wish to post/create a number of records to a table by an argument from another table"

In Alpha terminology, a post is used to replace, add, or subtract field values in the Master
table using field values from a Transaction table.

An append adds records to a Master table from a transaction table.

There are xbasic methods to add new records to a Master table and fill the fields of the new records with values.

Can you tell us more about what you mean by "post/create"?

Let me start by saying you need to look at the operations tab as well as the action scripting. I am sure most everything if not all can be cover by either one of these features. Now to answer your question.

define temp variable "InLoopCount" number .

DIM i as N 'This creates a local(temp) variable as a number

For tablenameA with fieldname = global variable "WS_ID" ;

DIM GLOBAL WS_ID as C 'Creates a global variable as a character

assign InLoopCount := 1 .

count = Qty 'This defines count as 6

While InLoopCount
