Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    About to take the plunge

I encountered what to me is a serious problem. In my post (Here's a Stumper, Msg ID#33093), I outlined the problem. Basically I CANNOT get the startup form on one of my applications to automatically display on startup. I've tried it from the dsiktop icon, I tried it from Start, Run and nothing works. I've checked all the appropriate setting to no avail. The startup form on other application DOES work, it is just this one application that's causing the grief.

I'm thinking the problem started when I accidently downloaded and installed the latest build for the Home Edition. When I realized what I had done, I completed the fix as outlined on the Alpha site (apparently, I'm not the only one that downloaded and installed the wrong build). As I said, everything works now EXCEPT the startup form on ONE application - it happens to be the application that I tried to open after installing the incorrect build, which made me aware of my error.

I'm at the point now of thinking about installed one of the older builds and then coming forward to the current one, but before I do that, I would like to get some thought as to any possible problems I should be aware of. Suggestions would also be greatly appreciated.

it is impossible that the cause of this is that you installed the home edition.

there is obviously a reason that the startup form is not showing, but it may now be easy for you to find out why. it would be easy for us though, so just send me your app.

      Selwyn,

The file is 1.4Mb, so I'm sending it as an email attachment.

      And thank you,

            OK Dave,
It's not fair for you to know the answer and the rest of us are left to guess. I'm going out in the back yard, lay in the grass and kick and scream until my wife comes and tells me you've revealed the secret (or the neighbors call the police).

              Jim & Ohlen,

Sorry to have caused needless confusion with my cryptic comment. Kicking and screaming in the backyard is more than I can handle ;~)

Somehow, the contents of my autoexec script got deleted. Selwyn said when that happens, the autoexecute sequence is corrupted and halts - including the loading of a startup form. I copied the contents of the autoexec script from my laptop to my development system and everything is 100% again. Selywn said that he was going to correct that, so that an empty autoexec script didn't halt the sequence.
