Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Expression Problem

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to put a child filter on a set in the set editor.
The logical expression I was wanting to use gives me a dialog box stating the expression is invalid. The filter Builder does not give the options i have tried to use (which I should take as a hint that it will not work)so I checked it in the expression builder. It came back as logical and correct.

    Client Information Parent Table
    Customer Suggest table Child table

    Heres the expression:

    Customer_Suggest_Table->Next_Cleaning_ToStart_Time+Client_Information->Job_time+Customer_Suggest_Table->Drive_Time

I'm sure it has to do with the use of multiple tables
Should a lookup function be used?

Thanks Again for all the Help

    Brian

    RE: Expression Problem

    Brian,

Looks like you're trying to add times. Cannot tell whether you want to wind up with the time displayed on the clock at a given point, or whether you're trying to calc the elapsed time (duration). In either case I think you have to convert things to lowest common denominator (seconds) to do the math, and then reconvert back to clock time if desired.

More information about the purpose of the function, and the details on each field used in the expression will help.

      RE: Expression Problem

      Hi Tom

Well I originally was just making sure I could use parts of both tables to make the filter and was going to add the rest later. I went ahead and added the rest still with no success. I know the expression is valid atleast if I use it on the form for the set but I cannont get it valid in the set editor. Is there something I am missing???? Or is it just not possible for some reason????

The updated expression Is as follows:

      Customer_Suggest_Table->Start_Time_To>=totime(toseconds(Client_Information->Start_Time)+toseconds(Client_Information->Job_Time)+toseconds(Customer_Suggest_Table->Drive_Time),11,0

      Again any help is appreciated

      Thanks Brian

        RE: Expression Problem

It is odd that you are working in the 'set editor'. I interpret this to mean that you are working with the design of the set itself. i.e. edit the set. If so, stop. If not, you'll have to describe what you're doing more completely.

A MUCH better choice for you would be to build a simple model of the necessary tables (using dummy data) and post it here with a text file explaining what you want to do, and where you're stuck. Details, details, details. Cannot ever have too many when trying to debug someone else's app.

          RE: Expression Problem

          Hey Tom

Thanks for replying so quickly. I do not have much time right now unfortuneltly so I will give a quick explanation.

The purpose is to help us schedule one job with another.

I want it to suggest in a browse for the child table what job is compatable to the job suggested in the parent.

A couple of things come into play

          Due Month

Start time of first job + How long the job takes + Jobtime to the next job

now any jobs whos start time is after this equation is an acceptable 2nd job.

          "Customer" parent table

          "Customer Job Suggest" child table

this table holds fields and records such as

          CustomerFrom Customer to Drive time
          A B 00:15
          A C 00:10
          A D 00:20
          A E 00:40

there is also of course start times ,job times,Due monthe etc.

The link between the tables is

Customer+Due month to Customerfrom+ due month

i put the due month in there to make only the jobs with the correct due months appear in the browse. This all works correctly so far

now we need to place a filter using the above explanation.

well I need to go to work so see if you can make any sense of this and I will get back with you tomorrow. Thanks again for the help
