Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF & RTF Drivers

    I have a computer that is a all-in-one machine.
It has no printer lpt port on it only USB ports
I get 4 errors every time I start A5 about the print drivers.

    I tried un-install and re-install.

    Didn't fix

Is it because the ports it is trying to associate with the drivers doesn't exist on my machine?

    Please help!

    RE: PDF & RTF Drivers

That seems unlikely as the USB can support printers as well as any other periferal.

    More info would be helpful:

    What brand of computer
    What operating system
    Size of hard drive

Are you using any special partitioning on the drive or using multiple drives?

When you say "runtime" do you mean you only have the runtime? There is a difference between A5v5 and the runtime.

A5v5 is the development environment and DB engine. The runtime only allows distributed A5 solutions to run without A5v5 installed.

You need to have A5v5 to build A5 data bases. You then use the runtime to distribute with your solutions to third parties who dont have A5.

If you have mistakenly purchased only the runtime you can contact Richard Rabins [email protected] to resolve the confusion and get on track.

Just re-read your thread so disregard my previous assumption.

Apparently the drivers are installed the first time A5 is started and require that the user have admin rights.

Uninstall - set admin rights and reinstall then run.

            RE: PDF & RTF Drivers

Alpha5 is designed to automatically load all four drivers on startup. It was designed that way to offset user error when users delete the .TXT files from the diorectory you program is loaded into. I have had several problems before this addition with users deleting the text file drivers by doing a general cleanout of imported txt files.

Been there done that. re-installed with admin rights.
              Still same errrors
All four drivers give error messages that they did not load.
Running same application on 4 other machines, no error.
The only differnece I can conclude is that this machine has no lpt or com ports.

                RE: PDF & RTF Drivers

After you install it under administrator rights - you also have to run the program once while still under the administrator rights. This will create the drivers and eliminate the errors.

                Worked for me...

Ran Alpha with admin rights, and the other machines running same app also are running 98SE.

                      RE: PDF & RTF Drivers

I have heard of limitations, particularily networking limitations resulting from compact mother board designs in late model (win 98) systems.

Though that doesn't explain the files not found.

Can you copy those files from a working system and manually put them in that folder of the compact system?
