Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ODD behavior

    We have a simple database.
    its simple a search form
When I start it using the runtime

The status bar in the lower left of alpha 5 keeps flashing
as if a search is happening.

Problem is this never stops. It does not seem to affect the operation of the form or data in any way. But it is a problem in its very annoying?

I will attach my runtime setupfile
and you can extract the database from there and look at it.

BTW... the installer does not make icons, this is a major flaw. I read serveral threads on this, there seems to be no solution?

Message board attachemnets must be 1MB or less. Try removing some of the dat from your tables, then zip it up.

          RE: ODD behavior

I finally got a better dataset!
Hopefully this one is much smaller and will transfer
IT is simply our data forms and such

The problem is the status lower left.
flashes as if its searching the database
It does it in the full version sometimes
But it almost always does it using the runtime.

I either need to know why its doing it. and how to stop it

Or simply know how to shut off the status bar on the bottom of the form!

          Thanks

            RE: ODD behavior

Your file still did not attach. However, you can turn off the status bar with StatusBar.Hide() and turn it back on with StatusBar.Show()

              yet another try
              this should do it

the avante-gurde-tile.bmp file should be copied from the alpha 5 folder to the database folder or it will have an error
I also removed about half the records and compressed from within alpha 5

hopefully you will see the problem with this trimmed down version

It's something with the combo boxes on the three fields that have them.

                Related Services
                City
                Areas of Expertise

Haven't gone any farther than that. If I make those type in fields, the flashing goes away.

Neat effect though. Where you trying for that effect? :-)

                    RE: ODD behavior

OK I played with it some.

Seems to be the city and state boxes only!
They are built from the table itself

the service and expertise values are pulled from another table.

for some reason Auto creating the state from the same table
                    causes this affect??
                    One wonders why?

I can simply make the state and cite type in fields and let the user type it in, That would solve the problem I suppose

                      RE: ODD behavior

From the CD Directory form: Field Properties Choice Tab change from to direct, then change state to combo Choise tab use direct and save. This stops the behavoir. When going back and looking at the choice tab after saving, the table choice reverts to , go figure but it now works. I was not able to change CD Directory C in the same way ...not sure why! It appears that the behavior is related to the looping of building the list.

Sorry for the multiple post .... It was too late last night, I did not see that zip was a combo box on CD Director C form. If you do the same thing there, that will clear that form also. Regards .... John

                              Excellent thanks!

Sorry about the form locking out the controls
                              forgot all about that

the area to the right or the specialty record, is a hotspot control that closes the search form and returns to the control panel.

                              Regardless, you found the solution.
                              Thanks very much!
