Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Bubble Help text disappears-why?

I've created a custom help for a form, but don't understand what the Bubble Help text at the top of the custom help window does.

I can type text in the text line, press OK, save the form, only to have the text disappear and not show up anywhere when I press F1.

So, what does the Bubble Help text/window actually do, and how does one make the text stay put?

    Thank you,
    Wanda

    Wanda,

The Bubble Help is a text to appear whenever you place the cursor over the object. It is the same as how when you run the cursor over an icon of a toolbar you will see the purpose of that icon appear (e.g. "Cut (Ctrl+X)", "Paste (Ctrl+V)", etc.).

      RE: Bubble Help text disappears-why?

      Hi Stephen,
I know what a bubble help is supposed to do. My question is why doesn't it do what it is supposed to do? The text in the Bubble Help window, created in Form Properties disappears.

I have placed a custom help in Form Properties which works just fine. The reason I'm mentioning the help file is because creating it is done in the same place where the Bubble Help text window is. Are the two totally unrelated?

Could the problem be that a Bubble Help is only applicable to objects on the form, rather than the form, itself, being the object?

      Thank you :)

        Wanda,

The bubble help for forms only works in the bathtub. :)

Seriously, I veried that it doesn't work for just the form,
and I noticed that it is ignored (not saved) for browses.

So it may be a bug/feature?
        A5v5 build 1403 sys addin=1033

BTW, if I did the small wand in the solution and I blow gently, I get lots of bubbles. :)

Melvin, you're brilliant! Can't wait to get home to try this out! I've been putting my entire PC in the tub, but all that does is curl my hair and create a few sparks and dry my skin out. I never knew I was only supposed to use the "wand" (I presume you mean the mouse, right?) I wonder if you can create different colored bubbles - and sizes, too!

Sharing your intelligence so generously has opened up marvelous opportunities for me :) Just think, I can sell my bathtub bubble making machine, complete with the wand, bathtub, bathroom, and house to put it all in - just a couple sales of this magnitude and I can retire!

          Wala!

          Cheers!

                Wanda,

I knew you were kidding. In fact I laughed. I was serious about confirming the problem with the forms and browses.

As an aside to Peter, I agree this board is serious, but a little humor here and there does not hurt and goes a long way towards making it user _friendly_.

                  Wanda,

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. The bubble help works on objects on a form but not on the form itself. Probably designed this way. If it worked on the form, it would be present whenever the cursor was on the form and could be an annoyance to the operator.

Phew! I'm glad :) I love the humor that flys across this board - you guys frequently crack me up. I sit in a cubby and my neighbors always want to know what's up when I heartily LOL.

But work goes on - and we MUST BE SERIOUS - or DEMETRIOUS - whichever flavor you want to be :)
