Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dymo 330 Label help Please...

    I've spent hours trying to design a label to work with the Dymo 330 Label Printer. Per other suggestions on this board I've been trying to do it using a report instead of a label. I've probably wasted a whole roll of labels already.

    Anyone who has successfully done it care to attach their report to a dummy table and upload it here?

    It would be greatly appreciated!!!

      Mark,

      The only way I've been able to do this was to export the selected records to Word and then print from there. I'm in process of asking Selwyn how this can be automated in the form of a button.

      The process is to create the mail merge document in Word and specify the data source as your A5 database. If this is just for you, then that's all you'll need. Just select the records you want and you're done.

      The other way I've been working with is to place a logical field in the database something like: "Print Label?". As the user goes through the database, he can select "Yes" to this logical field. "No" would be the default. In the Operations for your app create an Export and set it up to filter the records for this logical field. Then back on your forms' OnExit event, run this operation to export the pertinent details for your data source.

      You can then go back into Word and the selected records will be there for printing.

      As I said, I just posted a question as to how to do all this with a single button on the form. Maybe someone else can figure that one out, but for now I hope this helps you.

      Best of luck,

      Charlie

        Mark,

        After sending my last post, I played around a bit with my Dymo330. I had some troble with doing this in Word, but what definitely did work was to do everything I said on the A5 side. Then, go into the Dymo software and import the list into Dymo. From there you can print away, with no problem.

        If you or anyone else figures out how to do it in one step let me know!

          I use a Seiko 100 label printer which is similar.

          I set up the label as a label. set it one accross and down.

          I have abutton oin the forms to print the name of the person on the form.

          The button save the record. Of you made changes to the name fields they will not print the new changes unless the record is saved.

          I then run the following x-basic script.

          I use a network so it alos checks for the name of the computer, since the printer name is different.

          *************

          ' SPECIFY THE RECORD TO PRINT
          record_number = current_record_number()
          query.filter = "recno() = " + record_number
          query.order = ""

          ':label.print("Single label")
          ':LABEL.PRINTER_OVERRIDE("")

          'This script will override certain of the printer properties that are specified in the saved layout.
          delete options
          dim options as p

          'before you can initialize 'options' using the property_from_string() function at least one dot variable must exist. therefore, create a dummy variable.
          options.dummy = 1
          options_text =

          %str%
          'create a dot variable from options_text. the dot variable contains the printer properties to be overriden
          property_from_string(options,options_text)

          'now you can delete the dummy variable
          delete option.dummy

          'oldOptions will store the current printer options, so that we can restore them.
          delete oldOptions
          dim oldOptions as p
          oldOptions.dummy = 1

          'set the printer override settings.
          'DETERMINE WHICH COMPUTER IT IS ON
          computer_name=api_getmachinename()
          if computer_name="STEVE"
          ':LABEL.PRINTER_OVERRIDE("Smart Label Printer 100")
          old_printer_name = report.Printer_override("Smart Label Printer 100 on Ne02:",options,oldOptions)
          END IF
          if computer_name="KATHY"
          ':LABEL.PRINTER_OVERRIDE("\\STEVE\Smart Label Printer 100")
          old_printer_name = report.Printer_override("\\STEVE\Smart Label Printer 100",options,oldOptions)
          END IF

          'old_printer_name = report.Printer_override("Smart Label Printer 100 on Ne02:",options,oldOptions)

          'delete the dummy variable
          delete oldOptions.dummy

          :Label.Print("SINGLE LABEL",query.filter,query.order)
          'Now restore the original printer settings
          report.printer_override(old_printer_name,oldOptions)
