Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    email error message

I am just starting to explore the email receiving features. I know that on I was able to receive email in the past but tabled this activity for some time. Now when I attempt to received email I get an error message:

ERROR: tbl.sent_date subproperty cannot be assigned to

On starting receive, I get a dialog box saying that I am downloading message 1 of 1 It this says that download is completed but says that the message downloaded message is slightly less than the message size. Any suggestions on how or where to look to attack this problem.

    RE: email error message

The size shouldn't be a problem. If it completes, it has downloaded the entire message. Some POP3 servers don't report an accurate byte count and when the message is actually being downloaded, it ends up more or less than what the server initially reported.

As for the tbl.sent_date property. Check to make sure that your inbox had a sent_date field. It should be a character field w/ a length of 40. If it is there, try packing the inbox.

      RE: email error message

I have tried packing the inbox without success and I am using the Alpha supplied inbox copy of the table structure shown on the attached .jpg. This works the same for 2 separate POP3 accounts one with my ISP and one furnished with my website. I pretty sure that it is accessing the site.

I dont know if they are related but I am also having a problem with ReportMailer. In a series of email, I can send the series to the varying email addresses and each will receive an individual pdf report associated with that email address; however, if I try to personalize the subject and or message with expression builder, each email will reflect the information for the first record rather than use that field information for the record that the email applies to. (Note: the right information shows in expression builder if one pages through the list only the resultant emails fail to show the correct information.)

Would you suggest removal of the program and a fresh install of Alpha 5, Ad Hoc, Report Mailer and Patch?

        RE: email error message

email_receive() should have done this, but change the data type of sent_date to Character and give it a length of 40.

Thanks that did the trick for incoming.

Looks like it renamed sent_date(). Note the 2nd jpg attached. Should sort_date should be a character field also with a length of 20 and that sent_date() and sort_date are not necessary. Correct?

Finally are you aware of the other problem with ReportMailer that I noted above? Does my explination make sense as to what the problem is? And if it should be working right can you point me in the right direction to trouble shoot this?

            RE: email error message

sent_date and sort_date are both required fields, though if you don't care about the information stored in them, you could delete those fields and they will be recreated for you with the proper definition.
