Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Current Record

Am I having a mental block, I have a button that prints a report. When defining with Action Scripting I want to print the current record only. When I get to the section for selecting criteria, there is NO Current record only option. Where am I going wrong?

    Thanks

    RE: Print Current Record

As you go into the action script editor....

When you select the report layout to print and select the "next" button, the fourth choice down is current record only. Select that choice, hit next, then finish.

    Hope that helps.

      RE: Print Current Record

In version 4.5 there was an option to print the current record. I cannot see it in version 5. After you select which layout to print press next and on the next screen I selected the second option. On the filter I selected patient id in the value field and again in the filter field.Patient id is a unique number. The current record prints fine.

      Hope this helps,

          RE: Print Current Record

          Philip,

It looks to me as though the Script Genie behaves differently if one is defining an action command to print a report layout than it does when defining an action command to print a form layout.

Using Build 1400 when I define one to print a form layout the option is presented to print only the current record.

When I define one to print a report layout that same option is omitted from the list of possible range settings.

I do not know if this difference is by design or not.

Please confirm that you see these differences, too. Maybe they should be reported to Alpha ?

Tom, attached is a file showing the criteria for a form layout. The Current Record Only is not displayed.

              Philip,

did you start from scratch, with a new button, or did you edit the existing action script used previously for your report?

              My testing began from scratch.

                Tom,
On the previous thread I just added a new action. I just created a new button and the current record did NOT display and I went to the code button from the control panel and created the actions script and the current record did NOT display there as well. The current record option has gone to code heaven somewhere...

                    RE: Print Current Record

I ran into this problem also and discovered that when you define the report you must use the same table or set that the form you are calling the report from is defined. Then the print current record only option will be available.

                      RE: Print Current Record

I think that if the report you wish to print is based on the same table or set as the form that you are putting the print report button then the option to print current record is available. If the report is based on another table or set the option to print the current record is not available and you need to use a filter. Alternatively you could ask for a prompt at runtime and choose show reports from another set or table. You will then get a pick list of available reports.

Gil, thanks. That squares with what I'm seeing, too, though I did not recognize it before now.
