Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Position Window Options Missing

Action Scripting to position a window. The left and top options are missing. Current help system show 3 options each for vertical and horizontal positioning.

I get the options shown in this screenshot. There has been a problem with my scroll bars from day 1 and some screen repainting issues that show up but otherwise seems normal.

      Russ,

I printed a screen-shot and to X-position drop down box shows only a center and right choice.

I.m running on the latest patch. I went back to 1021 and get the same drop-down box.
I'm having some problem with scree shot to a file right now. Will post a ss when I get it figured out.

I still have the problem. I reinstalled A5 and applied 1031/1400 and it does not give a top or left choice.

        Hopefully a screen-shot is attached.

              Paul

I am using build 1400_1031 and have all choices available. However, the line "box" which I think is intended to show the relative size of the form does not work well as I have a bleed through problem. I can see whatever is under the dialog thru the box area.

However, If you look at the underlying xbasic, you will find this is one of those actions that is just as easy in xbasic or inline xbasic as it in in action scripting. This is all of the code on the command:

              'Position window: current window.
              dim pObj as p
'get a pointer to the current window
              pObj = topparent.this

              pObj.window_position("Left","Top")

You could easilty convert this to inline xbasic and edit the "left" or "top" to what you need. Incidentally, this is the code created by my action scripting genie. I did not edit it in any way.

                Jerry,

Thanks for your reply. I also have bleed through in the line box that seem like Alpha should fix.

The mystery still is when I use the system as developed by Alpha it doesn't work per the help screen. I will attempt to use the position.window statement but I still feel I shouldn't have to do it that way.

What about the user that is very new to a database system and has never written any code?

The 3 choices are there, just no scroll bar. Click in the drop down list and use the up or down arrows to scroll, you can get the choices. I agree that this should be fixed, but I've gotten used to it.

                    Russ,

Thanks for your reply. I never thought to use the cursor up/down keys since there was no scroll bar to show that there was more data to display.

Let's hope thet correct the problem. Back to bigger & mot challenging issues.

Just to let you know Selwyn has told me that the bleed through will be fixed in 1032.
