Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email Client Gone Awry

Last night I updated to current A5 patch.

This morning I am trying to send an email with a predefined template that worked prior to the patch update. Now I am getting a 501 message that tells me I have a bad address syntax and I should check my email settings in the View option. I do this and the settings look good to me although A5 of course has added some options. I have not changed any information since previous successful use of the A5 mail client.

Nothing has changed either in the template I have been using or in the email address I am sending to.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks, good news - bad news I guess.

Good news- is not me that is the problem

bad news- there is a problem that more than one person now has

Hopefully they will look at it quick and provide a fix. I am kinda "dead in the water" until it is fixed.

          RE: Email Client Gone Awry

we have made substantial changes to email in build 1028 and 1029. these have fixed some other problems reported by users, but apparently have broken it for you.

in the mean time, i have reposted build 1027 which you can download.

can you please send aaron brown ([email protected]) details of your email settings so that he can resolve this problem.

          thanks.

              Thanks Selwyn!

I have, as you suggested, sent a note to Aaron. Hopefully this is short-lived so I don't need to go back to 1027. If push comes to shove, I can use my notebook (which does not have the newst patch yet) to send the messages but prefer to use desktop first. If someone will point to a possible timeframe that would help.

                  Aaron,

has this been fixed? I have "fallen back" to 1027 in order to use email and have not heard or read anything about a fix.

                  Thanks

                    Hey Bob

I sent my stuff to Aaron. I was using a business alias in the from field in the email account settings (which I need to do)

Just using a simple email address solved the problem but not for me - I need the alias... This works fine in 1027, apparently only by coincidence as it is not officially supported.

With a little squeeky wheel I was promised this will be fixed in the next patch.

Not sure if we have the same problem.

contact Aaron if you want more info

                    Good Luck

                      Thanks Marc.

I also use a simple email address although I prefer to use an alias as it looks more professional IMHO. I could not get an alias to function in any patch. It seems we both have the same problem right now but interesting to me there are not more people posting this or a similar problem here on the board.

Was there any clue as to the next patch? I am able to function on my application using 1027. It is always nice to be current though. And it would be nice if they gave alias ability in the email client.

Bob M, I emailed you several days ago and never heard back. There wasn't a bug, Marc put incorrect data in the email settings dialog. I have since added the ability to have aliases in the "From" field, but this was never supported. Send me your email settings and I will see if you are experiencing a bug.

That is interesting Aaron because I responded that same day.....here is the message I sent

                          =============================================
                          --------------- Original Message Follows ------------------

points to a bug that has been created since my installation of the most recent patch 1029.

In a nutshell it is not recognizing my email settings as valid syntax. On the other hand, it was functioning properly with 1028.

The message I receive is a 501 and indicates my email address setting are bad syntax and I should go to the Settings Option and correct.

Selwyn suggested I send this information to you.

I really do not want to go back to 1027 if this can be repaired quickly so please let me know if there will be a delay.

                          Thanks
                          Bob M.

                            Aaron

I downloaded 1031 and successfully sent an email to this address, [email protected]. Then I sent one to this address, [email protected]. The latter generates a 554 Error mesage telling me it is not a valid recipient. I tried this with other addresses and it gives same 554 message. And of course, the coup de gras, it tells me that aaron@alphasoftware is also not a valid recipient.

                            So, what now?
