Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tabbed on top of Tabbed...Crash!

Could someone please try to duplicate this for me...

Place a tabbed object on a form.

Look at the properties of the tabbed object and make note (I'd write them down) of the exact dimensions...top,left,width,height.

Copy and paste the tabbed object you just created.

Go to the newly pasted tabbed object's properties and change the dimensions so the match the original tabbed objects EXACTLY.

Does Alpha Crash? It does for me.

For those of you who are wondering why on earth anyone would want to do this, I offer the following...

Since we can not restrict access to a specific tab on a tabbed object (without using MDI) I figured I would create to tabbed objects.

The first would have the tabs that anyone is allowed to have access to.

The second one would be identical to the first one with the exception that the secont object would have an additional tab with sensitive info...credit card numbers, social security numbers and so forth.

I would keep the sensitive tabbed object hidden unless the user validates access permission (aka enters the right password or is logged on as a supervisor).

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks,

    Louis

The question is do we know how to reed. When I tried your idea, Alpha immediately shut down when I tried to set focus to one of the tabbed objects. I doubt that placing one on top of the other was ever expected. One thing that does seem to work is to put the tabbed objects on a conditional. Create 2 conditions and place on tabbed object on each. This seemed to work.

        Jerry,

Or is that Jerry Reed? I busted up when i started to read your respons. Thanks for the laugh...it's been a long week!

I guess it's time for me to play with conditional objects. I made it this far without having to learn how they work, but if they are like everything else in Alpha, once I play with it for a little while, you won't be able to pry my cold dead fingers off the things.

Thank you for trying this out for me and thanks for going the extra step in helping with a solution.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just allow conditional access to a button that opens a pop up form?

          Just a thought
