I want to use the eof() function in a script. It will not evaluate if used as documented. 'eof()' will evaluate, but 'eof("tablename")' will not evaluate, even though I am using the slection feature of the expression editor (the down arrow for a list of tables) to choose the tablename. Any ideas?

Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RE: eof() function
Don't find any documentation of the eof() function taking a parameter in the expression functions reference. The eof() function is used with a pointer obtained with the table.open() or table.current() methods.
The xbasic manual refers to Tbl.eof([Tagname]) where tagname refers to a valid index name.There can be only one.

RE: eof() function
Mark, the docs do a poor job of explaining how BOF() and EOF() seem to work.
Here's a series of simple commands from the Interactive Editor, that illustrate it better. The example
is uses a table with 3 records in it.
Code:tbl = table.open("customers.dbf") ?tbl.records_get() = 3.000000 ?tbl.recno() = 1.000000 ?tbl.bof() = .T. ?tbl.eof() = .F. tbl.fetch_next() ?tbl.recno() = 2.000000 ?tbl.bof() = .F. ?tbl.eof() = .F. tbl.fetch_next() tbl.fetch_next() ?tbl.recno() = 3.000000 ?tbl.bof() = .F. ?tbl.eof() = .T. tbl.close
Both work with the current table, and require
a pointer to reference that table.

RE: eof() function
Tom,
I saw earlier what you see on page 41, but it doesn't refer to a parameter being passed to eof(), nor does the bof() documentation refer to a parameter. Don't know why it is in the expressions reference at all since it is more properly a property? or method? than a function.
I also tried what Mark suggests in the interactive window and it performs exactly as he indicates. The auto-complete provides the [c tablname] and activating the ctrl-down arrow brings up a list of tables. You have to manually type in the "tagname" to correctly use the method.
Any idea why the auto-complete stops at around 148 tables when building the lookup? I have many more than that and only saw tables/sets with names beginning with "a" part-way through "r".There can be only one.

RE: eof() function
Charlie hit the nail. I wanted to update a field in a table using an expression. I'll try using Charlie's code in a in-line basic (whatever they are called).
Thanks
Mark

RE: eof() function
Aside from the little typo "frtch.eof()", Charlie got me where I needed to go. I was trying to stay with Action Scripts, but alas it looks like I am going to have to write some code. The last time I got deeply into coding I was using punch cards (it is easier to move the lines around, just resort the cards).
Here's what I ended up with. Thanks for the help.
'Assign Employee ID Numbers
dim Shared Employee_IDCounter AS C
dim Shared Counter2 AS C
dim shared Counter1 as N
LET Counter1=0
LET Counter2=""
tbl=table.open("recruitsconv")
tbl.fetch_first()
'A COMET Session Number is set outside this script
'in the character variable Comet_SessionNum. Then a counter is
'added to the end of this number. The counter is padded
'with leading zeros so that it is always 3 places.
WHILE tbl.fetch_eof()=.F.
LET Counter1=Counter1+1
LET Counter2=""
tbl.change_begin()
IF Counter1
