Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Button("Control Panel Refresh")

    Hello Everyone,

What would be the correct way to use:

    a5.System_Mode_set("control_panel_refresh_check","True/False") and or

    a5.System_Mode_get("control_panel_refresh_check")

on a button, so that someone using Runtime could manually refresh the control panel from their computer?

    Thanks Ed

    RE: Button(

If someone is running runtime, they have no need to refresh the control panel since they can't make any changes.

      RE: Button(

      Hi Jerry,

One of these days I will get this all straight.

Say that a program(Database) has many updates during the day on the development machine(Updating files on the server).

At this time we are not using network optimize, do the runtime machines see the updates as they are happening?
The runtime machines of course are looking at the server machine also.

Hope I made myself clear(Would I be saying this correctly, the control panel is only the gateway to making program changes?). And as program changes are made(update to a form, a report, etc.) they will be reflected in the files on the server, as they are made?????

      Thanks Ed

        RE: Button(

Control panel refresh and network optimize are 2 different animals. Control panel refresh is to refresh the control panel if changes are made that would previously be handled by dbcheck. network optimize is to refresh the shadow data on the client machine from the network.

          So if

          "Alpha Five Control Panel
When using Alpha Five, you're working with one database at a time. The Control Panel is a
tabbed interface that organizes the items in your database."

So if a form, browse, is f9(saved), the files in the data base are updated at that time(When they are saved)?? So the only thing that a runtime machine would need to do, is just refresh the screen on each computer to see the changes. Is that correct? Basically that is what I am asking.

          Thanks Ed

Well.... When you make changes to the table sturctures, forms, sets, browses, etc. and then save them' that's it unless you are in the dbcheck mode. Then you need to refresh the CP. However, this really has nothing to do with the other computers on the network since, if RT is on them, they can't access the CP on the server so they cannot make any changes.

            TYVM :) kenn

Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.
