Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can't window Alpha 5

Has anyone tried to run Alpha 5 windowed with another program.

I can minimize and maximize Alpha 5, but it doesn't even try to operate in a window.

I can window Alpha 5 forms and applications, just not the Alpha 5 program.

I've seen this on four different computers.

Works fine for me on XP

Click the "windowed" box as you call it and then grab your window frame and click and drag to resize.

I have ask this same question and still can't get it to work. I too can window my forms but not Alpha Five, it is either max or min, not sizable. I have probably changed a setting and can't find it to fix it.

        Hi Tony,

That's what I was wondering if there is some setting that I changed by accident.

We have a new Dell computer running XP and that one doesn't window either.

Works fine for me tonight on w2k. And I have every reason to believe it works for my client network users running under some pretty weak win98se machines.

Something very strange must be going on with your machines that won't do it. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling A5? Maybe even going through the registry before reinstalling and removing any reference you may find to A5 (but don't try this unless you know what you are doing).

Actually, in XP it may appear full screen, but actually be is restore size When it is is restore mode, you can faintly see some small diagonal lines at the bottom right hand corner of the window. If you move the cursor to the bottom right, you can resize the screen. Typical Windows, it is well hidden. I had the same complaint until I noticed the difference betwen full screen and restore. You can also control the size of the a5 window with xbasic with a5.width, a5.height, etc.

If you created a shortcut using the "shortcut genie" you have the option of maximizing the main alpha5 window. Did you perhaps set this in the shortcut on some machines and not others?

Using my laptop and WinXP I found the small arrow you mentioned in the bottom right hand corner - now I can resize. Hopefully, when I get back to the office I will be able to do the same with our workstations running Win98SE.
                Thanks

                  RE: Can't window Alpha 5

I read you post and tried this myself using Win98SE. I had the same problem. I noticed that when I clicked on the middle button, next to the "X" or close window button, that button would change from one window to a window on a window but the A5 program would stay full screen without my being able to adjust the window size. I played around a bit and moved around the task bar on the bottom of the screen and the A5 window and eventually saw the thingy in the lower right corner of A5's main window that would allow for adjusting the window. I adjusted it and now it works as expected.

Play around with it. You should be able to get it to adjust size.
