Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

you don't have to download ad hoc view again, nor do you have to pay again.

you do have to wait till we release the next patch for a5v5 though. once you download the next patch, you will automatically have the enhanced version of ad hoc view.

if you can't wait till the next patch comes out, send me an email and i will arrange for you to get an preliminary version of the next patch.

Check the email receipt you received when you purchased Ad Hoc View. It includes a link.

Is the AdHoc View still available? I don't see it in the list of add ons anymore.

                  Thanks, Tom!

The lists I looked at last night didn't seem to have it, but here is it between net mailer and report mailer.

The link at the top of this thread no longer works so when I couldn't find it in the add on's I wondered if it had been withdrawn.

For what it's worth I just checked the page you noted. The Ad-Hoc viewer is there but the links for that item are bad.

Ok, great idea. I love the thought of having my users beable to select which fields they would like displayed. Is there a way to use the ad-hoc as a replacement for an embedded browse and have it show up on my form (actually in my tab control. Attached is a jnpeg of my only form, and i have a similar browse on each tab. I'd like the user to be able to select the fields, instead of me only giving them what i think they need.

thanks for any ideas, if this is at all possible with the ad-hoc i will most definatly purchase it.

AdHoc creates a stand alone browse or form. I don't think you can do what you want using adhoc. With a lot of coding you could probably do it in xbasic or xdialog. But it would be a big job. A somewhat simpler (and limited) way would be to create a bunch of calc fields on the form in the embedded browse. Then provide a control mechanism allowing the user to "select" fields which would in reality be controlling the calc field display properties.

Thanks for the idea, I'm going to look into that. I can have a user pref file load and save on startup and exit, then control the calcs from it. This prefs would be selected from a genie type setup page from my tools menu.

                            Charles:

The attached text file has two scripts and one function that allow our users to choose which columns appear in the scheduler browses.

The basic element is the MakeBrowse function, the core of which I got from Selwyn. The app_make2.set is the set on which the form containing the browses is based.

The columns and their properties are set in a table called A_App_Provider, which is the table being queried in the scripts. The user selects the column, creates the column title and and can selecte the column and title font. The browse properties are propagated in the on init for the form. These include pretty complex color equations etc.
