Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: Date Range Filter

Marc, see pp 18 & 19 of the Expressions_functions_Reference pdf file.

You might also search this forum for between_date.

      RE: Date Range Filter

OK so I now have two variables:

      "gstartdate" and "genddate"

The browse field to filter is "Drop_Date"

in the browse properties I have the browse by expression set to:

      between_date(Drop_Date,Var->gstartdate, Var->genddate)

What is wrong here , I know this is not correct?

        Marc,

        Looks good to me.

Where do you plan to put it? Is the browse on a form? Parent for Child table?

If on a form - Go to Form Properties and select Filter and place your expression there for the browse table.

Now you need to "seed" the variables. You could click on the "V" icon and define your two variables there. Then open Field-drag-drop list and drop the two variables on the form. Enter the dates you want and press the F5 key.

You'll get it. Give us more details for more help.

          RE: Date Range Filter

Yes it seems it should be simple but I get a warning "cant load expression" and then the browse shows all records and the changing of the variable fields has no effect. The expression editor also shows (Invalid or incomplete expression)

The browse is on a tabbed layout and it is based on the parent table. The variables are Calendar fields and are placed on the form below the browse.

I have tried the expression in the browse properties with the previous results and also in the form properies where I get "Invalid Expression" and the form locks up and must be closed.

          Any Ideas?

I hope you do *not* mean "browse by expression"; your expression should be in the filter expression type-in in browse properties.

I did have the expression in the Browse by Expression field, so OK thats wrong -but- there is no filter expression type-in option in the browse properties that I can find.

Where do you see it? under which tab?

                RE: Date Range Filter

                Marc,

In infer that we are dealing with an embedded browse. The filter and order expressions for an *embedded* browse are found under properties of the parent form.
                -form/properties/filter_order tab

For a stand-alone browse the filter and order expressions are found under browse properties.

I got it worked out -

                  1) The variables must be global

                  2) The query is *not* on the browse or the form it is on a button with an on push event to "run a custom query"

Thanks for all the help guys
