Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New "AlphaSports" with Detailed "Ho

New Version of AlphaSports with Detailed

    New Version of
AlphaSports with Detailed "How To" Instructions
An updated version of the sample AlphaSports application
which ships with Alpha Five Version 5 is now available.
The major enhancement in this version of AlphaSports is
that each form now has a "Design Notes" button which brings up detailed help
explaining the concepts behind the form.
The AlphaSports help system is a great way to learn the
features of AlphaFive because you can explore the different features of
AlphaSports, and then click the "Design Notes" button to see how a particular
    feature was implemented.
You can get the updated AlphaSports from this link:

    http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/patches/alphasports.exe
The Help files cover many, but not all of the features of
AlphaSports. If there is a feature that you see in AlphaSports that is not
covered in the Help files and you think that it should be, then please send an
    e-mail to Ed Larrabee at
    [email protected]

    RE: New

That's great. Is there any way to print all the documentation for Alpha Sports without doing it a page or topic at a time?

    Thanks

        Selwyn,
        I appreciate the effort but...

There is a check box to copy to the billing information (customer form).
I couldn't readily see what event this triggered as there didn't seem to be any.

In the design notes I spent a minute or so scanning the headings but I didn't see anything.

As the button doesn't seem to work could you help a newbie to understand what is happening.

This is a really significant addition to A5's documentation. A new user can learn a lot from this and experienced ones will also find a tip or two.

            RE: New

we are very interested in exploring all the ways for getting people up to speed with version 5.

This new version of Alpha Sports is one the ways.

We will be releasing a "getting started with version 5" book as well some time in Q1

We also are exploring other methods in addition to training.

If you have any suggesgtions -- I would be happy to hear from you.

Thanks so much Richard. I for one appreciate the line by line explanation of the xbasic code. Not that I havent see some of it before but the way it is done truly helps. Thanks so much. I hate coding with xbasic when I dont understand every line of code. I guess its that mechanical mind of mine. Anyway, thanks so much.

This is so, so useful. I don't need a full 100% of the information, only a rather large xx%.

                Thanks very much
