Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Toolbar Clock

    A little Christmas present for everyone

    Attached is a text file with the code to add a clock to a toolbar using free-form xdialog. It has also been added to the Archive

          Thank you for your clock. Question, does this have to be created for each toolbar that the clock required on, or can it be entered just the once and then added to each toolbar as an extra item?

            I haven't found a way to make it available as a toolbar choice. But the code is quite simple. What I have done on my computer is save each piece of code in a text file and then import from the text file when I want it. Simple, effective.

              I have been using the code library for the same thing. I have found it a great place to store interesting things I copy from this board including your clock code. Does the same thing, just a different way.

              Thanks again

                  This is very cool. Thanks for sharing.

                  By the way, is there a way to have the clock appear on the right side of the toolbar, or at least to the right of the last button on the tollbar?

                    Gary,

                    To have it the last item on the right, just use the blue arrows on the left of the toolbar button tab of the toolbar editor. Move the free form xdialog to the last item. If you want to create a blank space before the clock to more it further to the right, create another free form xdialog and place it just before the clock xdialog. In the xdialog body put something like this.

                    {sp=10}

                    This would add a blank area 10 spaces wide. You can play with the dimensions to get the right size space.

                        Jerry,

                        Your clock really fits great on my client's custom menubar, but I have one small question that shows my ignorance, but I have to askd it anyway.

                        How do I adjust the vertical positioning of the clock without increasing the vertical size of the menubar? I've played with the xmargin, but I'm not seeing any effect.

                        Thanks,

                          Dave,

                          You need to play with the ymargin settings. Try

                          {ymargin=.35,0}

                          I noticed that the original code works fine if the clock is a standalone toolbar, but causes an increase in vertical size a if inserted into another toolbar. Anyway, here is some code to make a slightly different clock for the toolbar. Replace the code in the Xdialog body with this

                          {timer=update_time}{interval=1}
                          {font=Arial,12,bi}{ymargin=.35,0}
                          {sp=1}{text=%O={B=Win3d}{C=dark red}{@@}%.22,1.5:time}

                          All other code stays the same. Again, you can play with the ymargin to move the digits up and down. In fact, you only need to change the first value which is the top margin and set the second value to 0. I found that a value of .35 to be about the largest that won't increase the vertical size.
