Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    auto-filling a booking calendar

    good Evening people,

Would anybody be kind enough to assist me with this (to my mind) complex script.

I have a Booking form containing the fields arrival date (date field) & no of nights booked (numeric field) and eight check-boxes, one for each of up to eight cottages that could theorecally be included in a single booking .
Each booking receives an incremental booking reference (character format)

I then have what is essentially a booking calendar -- a 365 record browse each record being part pre-filled with each date (field1) and each weekday (field2) of the year. Fields 3 8 are the bookable cottages.

At present I copy the booking ref. Go to the calendar, find the correct date, move across the fields to the relevant cottage(s) and then paste the booking number into the number of records dictated by the no of nights field.

I know, with time I can use the arrival date to point to the correct calendar date, use the cottages checkboxes to point to the correct field(s), and use the number of night to step through and auto-fill in the correct number of records.

Given my present age, I cannot be sure I will live long enough to crack this one.

Just a clue or two will be most welcome, more might find you a niche in my last will and . . .

    Thanks

    Brianp

    Brian,

Is this what you want help with? You might want to be more explicit about your request and attach a zip file as well.

      Brian,

Ken is right in what he asking as you do not make it very clear as to what information you want on the screen. In the meantime have a look in www.learn alpha.com the are a number of calendar aplcation woth looking at to give some ideas. Also there is an ActiveX calendar with some dummy data linked with a browse, in Code Archive.

        RE: auto-filling a booking calendar

I look forward to seeing your issues being resolved. I bet if you zipped up your start, folks here would take on the challenge.

I'm thinking V5 would offer some special tools that we all could learn from.

I would envision an xDialog box that would capture all the information into variables, then append it to your table using the number of nights variable to enter the correct date and number of times it is appended.

Sorry I'm not more help. Actually, I am unable to run V5 due to a pdf issue that is awaiting Selwyn's return to resolve - I hope.

          Thanks for your input Thomas.

I hope your %PDF problem gets resolved soon.
