Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    GPF - Form Backgrounds

I created a simple form with a label and a text box. I then applied the Very Spotted stylesheet to the form.

While it didnt look bad, I then decided I might like a different background for this form, but I would keep the rest of the styles as is.

I right-clicked on the form, selected the Windows tab, and changed the embedded bitmap to a JPG image that I had. When I ran the form, I received the error message: Error running script: Backdrop

The program locked up solid and I had to give it the three-fingered salute. Thinking it might be a bad JPG, I re-started the computer and tried it again with a different image. Same thing, it locked up solid (XP Pro).

I then created a new form with no style sheets (just the default). Same thing.

I tried it again using a bitmap image (BMP) and it worked fine.

Alphas drop-down box allows JPG and BMP choices, so it appears as though this is a bug.

I want to use JPG files as they are generally a lot smaller than bitmap files.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    RE: GPF - Form Backgrounds

    Bob,

I had no problems here adding a .jpeg file.

I tried it in all modes(Absolute, tile. ect.)

My .jpeg file was 128KB in size.

    I am running WinXPh

Check your file size, maybe the problem relates to that.

    Hope this helps.

      RE: GPF - Form Backgrounds

Thanks for trying this Scott! I appreciate it.

      I gave it another test....

      - Create a new form
      - leave it empty (no fields - accept default values)
      - go to the form's properties
      - select backdrop tab
      - click on 'use bitmap'
      - select 'embedded' bitmap
      - press the 'change embedded bitmap' button
      - go to your favorite bitmaps and JPG folder
      - in the drop box instead of 'bitmap' select "JPEG(*.jpg)"
      - choose any one you'd like.
      - press the open button
      - you'll see it displayed in the sample area
      - to accept all... press OK in the top right corner

      Note:
      - the form's background is white...implying nothing was loaded
      - goto the form's properties dialog.
      - try to edit it and it will say:
      Error running script: Backdrop
Alpha Five will now be locked up

It does it every time. If I use a bitmap instead, it works perfectly.

I've tried it with at least 20 JPG images and it does not work.

The only way I've been able to use JPG's at all, is by creating my own stylesheet,
but since Alpha is giving us the option to use a JPG on this dialog, I thought I'd try
      it.

      Anyone else try the above?

      Regards,
      --Bob

        Hi,
Just checking to see if anyone has confirmed this bug? I've re-tried it, same results.

Is it a Win XP thing?

Have you downloaded the most recent patch? I'm unable to reproduce this problem.

            Hi Aaron,

Nice to get an official response.

I've got build 13541021, so it's the latest.

The program is responding normally, but if I get a chance later today, I'll re-install the software and report back.

            Thanks again.
