Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Startup Error

So far everything has worked rather well. Today I got the following error I have attatched. I updated alpha with the last update but no change. Anyone know what this is?

    RE: Startup Error

At what point does this error occur? Can you continue or must you abort?

I ask only because I've not seen this error message before. I take it this was occuring before installing build 1021?

When Alpha is initiating right before the databast menu is when I get this message. After I press ok then it gives me the database menu and everything works fine.

        David,

Alpha Five is trying to load an addin that it cannot find. If you reinstall the latest patch it should take care of it.

Lenny I too have this problem, I have just completed cleaning up my computer and now Alpha cannot find the Addin startup-preregistered. I must have deleted the addin by mistake, I probably can find it if I know what the file name is that I am looking for. Jack

            Lenny,

I did install the latest patch before I posted this on the board.

Well before this gets lost does anyone have an answer to this problem. Whenever I load Alpha it stops before the database menu appears and leaves the above message. As stated previously I have reinstalled the lastest patch again but still the same message.

It may be a problem creating the speed glossary. Is there a file called a_gloss.dbf in your shared path?

Ok, now a dumb question. What do you mean by shared path? I did a search and I have that file in every database I have created. Sorry I feel so dumb...

goto the interactive window and type

                    ? a5.Get_Shared_Path()

                    and look in that folder.

Aaron, this is the results of what I got.

                      = "C:\Program Files\A5V51Beta"

I can tell now that thats not right. Ok, what do I do?
Thanks for your help. Someone else had this problem too.

                        RE: Startup Error

Your shared path is set to that because you installed the Web Application Server beta. The actual folder used does not matter for this, does a_gloss.dbf exist in that folder?

Also you can change your shared path if you'd like to by going to View->Settings->Directories. But you don't not need to do this yet, first see if a_gloss.dbf exists in the current shared path.

Guys, you're speaking a little bit of a foreign language to me. I gave you what you asked for. Tell me where to look for that file and I can find out. I have that file in many places when i did a search. Where am I supposed to have it and where I am not. Sorry, you guys lost me.
