I am developing an inventory system to replace a system that I developed in Alpha4 some years ago. This is my first effort at Alpha5 and I am not a professional developer, so go easy on me. In fact, I only took this project because the system developed in Alpha4 has worked so well, for so long. So far, Ive been able to do all of the work using Action Scripting.
Our company is a production facility and we track product by unique carton numbers and pallet numbers. More than one carton number can be related to an individual pallet number. So, I have a set with the parent table, Pallet.dbf, and the child table, Carton.dbf. The two tables are linked by the pallet number. I have several forms for different data entry processes. The form for Totes is the current challenge.
This form collects descriptive information about the contents of the pallet and calls a dialog box that collects a carton number, net weight, and gross weight for the child database. When everything works, the form calls for the dialog box, the background in the browse turns white (gains focus?) and when the dialog box closes the data from the dialog box displays in the embedded browse. This works fine if data entry starts with empty tables. But, if I start data entry with records in the set, the embedded browse loses focus when the dialog box opens and the data in Carton.dbf will not display in the browse once the dialog box closes.
Did that make sense? Why does this form work under one circumstance, but not the other?
